What are your thoughts on members who are just down right smart alec and rude when they comment?

Recently I've noticed in several posts by various members that there seems to be a handful of folks who tend to be snide, rude, dis respectful, mean and callous and some are actually down right disgusting (sexist) in their responses.
I have noticed that a few members tend to do this quite a bit.
What would you do when you see a post like this? If it were a post you posted....Do you respond? Do you leave it alone? What if you didn't post it, but you read it on someone else's post?
Should these members be allowed to continue to be members?

Sgt Kelli Mays That is a great question. First, if it really offensive report it to one of us (Admins) we will work to get the thread removed. We want to keep the site profesional at all times. If isn't bad enough to met the guidelines for removal, then I would just ignore it. I've had some pretty bad comments made (not a lot), but a few and I usually ignore them and move on or I say, "Thanks for your professional feedback!", knowing that isn't what they wanted to hear. Some are just baiting you to respond, because it feeds their ego, so I never get caught in that or lower myself to their level. Stay true to yourself and be the ultimate professional. You have always been super polite and very professional - Keep up the great posts and discussions Kelli!

Being from Texas ,you should remember the saying we have for this type of individual. "Don`t pay any attention to $---,unless you step in it".

If they are that sort I'd think they didn't learn much during their enlistment. I don't care for disrespectful behavior or comments and I think theirs should be removed and a warning sent them not do so in the future or their membership would be revoked. Hopefully they value this forum enough to protect the privilege to continue using it. I know I do.

Some people didn't get enough attention from mommy and daddy and enjoy the anonymity of being behind a screen, able to say whatever they want with no direct eye-to-eye contact. They're cowards and should be ignored or removed.

I try to ignore them but there are a few that get under my skin and make me wonder why they ever joined the military and also how they survived in the military.

PO2 Mark Saffell, they might not have always been like that. My sister the nurse calls it age-related hardening of the opinions.

Sgt Kelli Mays To avoid redundancy I will just say, I agree with LTC (Join to see) and COL Mikel J. Burroughs.

Sgt Kelli Mays, I would what RP recommended. I would ask that they tone it down. Then, if it persisted, I would give them a down thumb, and lastly, block them and report it to the RP admin to deal with. There is a procedure for that also. I've tried the, losing my temper way, and it makes it worse for me, which is what the loser doing this wants. Just sayin.

Flippant or smart alec remarks may not be great but I think they are reasonable because a lot of the content on rallyPoint is intended to inflame our passions and spark outrage Sgt Kelli Mays.
Rude or personally insulting remarks should not be encouraged or tolerated. I try to follow Christ's golden rule - treat others as I would like to be treated. I do my best not to respond to rude or insulting posts with more of the same.

LTC Stephen F.
PO2 Lester Sullivan - are you being sarcastic or serious when you wrote "Many brave behind screen & keyboard?"
I prefer open communication with people such as you than people who hide their identities after they got out of the military. I can understand why some service members hide their identities and pictures while deployed.

I think that is what the down vote is for. I tend to just pass on and avoid those people in the future.
I keep a list of flamers to avoid as my memory is starting to slip these days, and I hate having to re-learn lessons the hard way.

I think it's admin/staff's job to determine whether or not they can continue to "serve" on RP. That being stated - if they become to annoying/obnoxious, you can block them? Most of the time, I just laugh off ignorant comments.

LTC (Join to see)
SPC Whitney Olson - Oh wow, I wasn't aware the block was temporary. Maybe admin/staff can re-evaluate the block option and the length.

SPC Whitney Olson - If that's true, you should report it to Admins, who can do something more permanent.

I will try to reason with them ... unless they start name calling me out ... that is how I get my 2 down voting in a roll ... I think eventually I will ignore them ... I think.

First of all, Sgt Kelli Mays, please don't ever respond to those members that are smart alec, rude, disrespectful, etc. Sergeant, your caliber is far above what these low life's caliber is.
You deserve, and have earned the right, to be honored, respected, supported etc.
And in answer to your question: A decided "No"; about whether these members should be allowed to continue to be members. I have not a clue as to how these "members" got to be on Rally Point at all.
Can you let Rally Point know about these members?

Capt Seid Waddell
SPC Margaret Higgins, Sgt Kelli Mays, it has been my experience that RP DOES cull these from the herd when they become aware of them.

Good, Capt Seid Waddell. I thought so. I let Rally Point know about a member who was mocking me; After I had written a scripture.
