Going through basic there was limited news coming in from the outside world except two small TV's in the opposite side of the dfac we exited from after we finished chow. when I went through the penn state child abuse scandal was happeneing and it was the only thing that was ever on those things. what about you? this could say a lot about your age as well :D

I remember our Drill Sergeant jumping onto the cattle car we were all stuffed into, to tell us about Major Hassan shooting up the SRP site at Ft. Hood.

no, our dfac was split into two areas. we sat in the left and the right always was empty. but to exit you went to a bottleneck (so to say) area in the middle of the dfac and took a right into the empty half. this is the same small entrance a DS stood because its also how you entered into the side we ate on. you'd occasionally see a SGM sitting by themselves or something, but that was rare. which is my theory of why any TVs were there in the first place. and I went during winter so when we came in to eat we had to take our gear off. but the screamed for you to leave so before we hit the door, we geared up, jackets gloves beanies those shits. it was like a 45 second window of the world we didn't get to see for months and I cherished every second

I am sure that something happened while I was in BCT but I sure don't remember what.

PFC Alexander Oliveira, I enlisted and later started BCT at Fort Jackson (Tank Hill), SC, on 11NOV69. The big news occurred on 1DEC69 when the big draft lottery was held (for the year 1970). My number was 332 and the highest number that was called that year was 179! Had I not enlisted, I would have never have even had to serve!

funny enough im sitting a few feet away from a vet just like yourself. he enlisted because he figured he'd be drafted and his number came close but fell short. funny the way life turns out isn't it? imagine whered you be without the military
