Swine Flu outbreak at Fort Dix. We actually found out before most of the country, and were among the first to be vaccinated.
"In 1976, an outbreak of the swine flu, Influenza A virus subtype H1N1 at Fort Dix, New Jersey caused one death, hospitalized 13, and led to a mass immunization program. After the program began, the vaccine was associated with an increase in reports of Guillain-Barré Syndrome, which can cause paralysis, respiratory arrest, and death. The immunization program was ended after approximately 25% of the population of the United States had been administered the vaccine."

I remember sitting in the dining facility during WLC watching news of that.
Funny how you can remember where you were when big events happen.

SGT Dave Tracy - call me ignorant, but what is WLC? I think event was like 9/11 where instantly you remember where you were when... it was a great day. Well maybe not for bin laden, but for the sane people fantastic day. Good job SEALs!!

Sorry, Army jargon. WLC is an Army NCO development school.
Yep, I remember where I was for 9/11, Osama getting smoked (yeah...bad day for him!), and when the space shuttles Columbia & Challenger met their fates.

SGT Dave Tracy - Oh ok. I think it is called NCOA for us.
I was one foot in and one foot out walking into my 7th grade Texas history class for 9/11. One of those space shuttles, my mom told me she was rocking my older brother, and I think the other one was a Saturday morning, and I heard a loud boom and thought my brother had fallen out of bed. Found out later what it really was.

Van Halen broke off with David Lee Roth and then turned around and brought on Sammy Hagar...HORRORS!!!
Seriously...there was a Delta crash at DFW and we found out that some of the passengers would have been in our baby flight...kinda devastating.

July 29, 1986. Moscow promised the world that they would drawdown 6000 Soldiers from Afghanastin by the end of the year.
And for those of the younger generation. Yes the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in the 80's.

PFC Alexander Oliveira just like you, we had 2 tv's in front of the CQ desk where we held Formation. There was a tiny 1" strip with news where I read that Phillip Seymour Hoffman had die of an overdose. Being a big fan of him, that was shocking...
