Yeah. It's the getting caught that sucks -- so I hear. Kind of like it isn't the 5,000 foot free fall with a faulty canopy that kills you -- it's the sudden stop at the end.

I don't know that we can do anything we want without permission. Isn't getting registrations, permits and licenses asking for permission? You need a license to fish, drive, marry, etc. Then the government tells you, you now need insurance to drive, no insurance, no driving. You need a permit for a gun, where in the Constitution does it state you must have a permit, register your weapon and be licensed to carry? I do understand that this countries demographics have drastically changed. People are allowed in without being vetted, criminal records checks or medical examinations. Those who have allowed this to happen do not live in the real world or among those they have allowed to invade. You need to licensed to do hair, own a bar or restaurant, be a physical therapist, a mental health therapist and so on. So just exactly how free are we? Let me just clarify I would want to know that the person cutting my hair or giving me therapy is qualified but doesn't years of schooling qualify a person?

Whatever you and I were before we met Uncle Same we were during and after our service to our Country! Sadly the other was and is so! One day I picked up a small paper back book at a Car Wash the title was "Core Values" by a Marine! It just sounded like what my mother and older brother taught me while we were growing up!!! Now I try and teach those same values to All THE CHILDREN THAT PASS THROUGH BROADWAY GYMNASTIC SCHOOL in Los Angeles, Ca.

I agree but living in Southern California, which is in a very liberal California, I disagree with the states having the power no CCW's (Carry Concealed Weapons Permits) no AR's and no high cap magazines. Too Many state laws. If you are a business in California the owners/ managers are guilty until proven innocent and they will fine you for everything.

I disagree. There are too many STATE and FEDERAL laws. While the Constitution was designed to give certain powers to the states there does need to be some way to balance it all out. The logic behind Big Gulps was stupid/non-existent. Too much sugar makes you fat so you can't buy a 40 oz cup of soda at 7/11 BUT you can walk to the refrigerator section and buy a 64oz bottle? The assumption is that you would share the bottle...who says you aren't sharing the cup? People have been arrested for obscure rarely enforced laws simply because they could. I think that for every law enacted they should search their records and delete 2 inane ones.

Sadly, what Bush II's first "czar" for faith-based initiatives, John DiIulio (he resigned after about 8 mos.), a political scientist by profession, wrote years back remains gospel: whatever was not under the purview of government & comes under the purview of government remains under the purview of government; or words to that effect.

There are laws on the books throughout all states that are outdated. Like it is illegal to walk your duck without a leash and when coming to a 4 way intersection you are to get out of your car and fire your shotgun in the air to notify other drivers of your location (at an intersection).

The soldiers today know that their Rules of Engagement are going to keep them safer than the one I got from stateside back in '67-'68 when I was on guard duty hoping that a satchel charge would not be thrown in our bunker that night! Its been my experience that for every law that is passed, there is someone's name that can be attached to it. Yes, they walk among us.

SSG David Kaelin - I've done some studies on religion myself, although I would claim no scholarly titles. What I've found is that Muslims will kill you for your lack of worshiping their god, and Christians will try to share with you the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose message was love. Jesus came not to condemn but to love and to intercede. Some who call themselves Christians may judge you for your non-belief and say you're damned to hell but they're not the Judge and have no authority in the afterlife. I don't have anything to prove my belief that Christ came to reconcile my sin with God except a collection of books which I also believe is the inspired Word of God. However, we also have no proof that animals and humans evolved from soupy seawater. Sure, there's theories but they're just that. Theories. The belief in evolution comes down to a system of faith. Some arguments for evolution seem compelling on the surface but upon further scrutiny, there are many inconsistencies. The message of Christ is simple: love one another and love God the Creator.

As far as the Constitution's First Amendment, the Founding Fathers recognized that their entire value system was based on that of the Judeo-Christian faith (their correspondence to each other and other publications will confirm as much). They also recognized that mankind was created with free will and determined that coercing citizens to patronize a religion established by the government (such as the Church of England at the time) was against these values they held dear. No successful government could be founded on a system without a value system that holds that human life is sacred. Look to Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler. Those guys failed miserably. The Founding Fathers passed on a moral code that embraced human life as important and the US has thrived as a result. It is only after the erosion of Judeo-Christian values in the last 60 years or so that we as a nation have seemed to falter.

SSG David Kaelin - Actually if you read the entire Constitution, to include the very last entry there is a very interesting statement at the very bottom after Article 8. I always found that entry interesting. In addition Jefferson.s Declaration of Independence also has some interesting entry's for a man who was said today that he was a Deist.

It also falls back to our FF, if the states didn't specifically give the federal government authority for something, it was a states rights. If the people of that state didn't give the state authority, it was the peoples right. That is the problem with countries that are NOT by the people and for the people.

Our FF understood rights do not come from government...therefore, govt can only do what the people allow them to. Rights come from God...gov is meant to secure thise rights, not author.them.

Well, this is a critical philosophical problem. The Constitution was a product of the Enlightenment, and regarded rights as defined by God or by natural philosophy (that is, it makes sense to educated minds). If neither is recognized, then a Right becomes a right, merely a privilege granted by the State. People who think this through find the idea frightening; those who do not have no problem defining anything they like at a given moment as a "human right." By this logic, Internet access is a human right, for all the good that does for starving people who have neither food nor WiFi access.

Partially true. Your real answer should be getting pregnant because after that there are all kids of rules/laws that have to be follow lest you get in trouble for endangering the welfare of a child and in some states that definitely includes during pregnancy.
