RP Members and Connections I found this picture very interesting and thought I would create some discussion. What are some of the things we can actually do without Government Permission?

Serve our Country in the Military? (Need permission, right?)

Is our Government too involved in our Freedoms and Rights?

Taking Drugs for me meant prescription drugs!

Your thoughts & comments are welcome.

I recently had lunch with someone I hadn't seen in many years. Good man. Back in the day, he was my superior. Someone for whom I have great deal of respect. While I had no problem addressing him by his first name, the "sirs" popped out naturally. Do something long enough and it becomes part of you forever.

The reason for 'permission' probably has more to do with the govt's desire to reach into our bank accounts than anything else. I can breathe without asking permission but I cannot breathe without paying taxes.

Let's make that just a tad "different", in that the "government" reaches into your pocket for the most part, to pay for the privaledges that you enjoy. For instance, the road you drive on must be built, maintained, and repaired; the house you build must be built to certain standards for safety and comfort; the fish you catch, the animals you hunt, and the mriad of other things that you might want to do, must be researched, and protected from the thousands like your self, or there would soon be nothing left! Remember that for every one hundred reasonable people who understand the need for rules and regulations there are approximently 5% of those who either do not wish to follow the laws for whatever reason, or are too ignorant to know the purpose of the law. Yes, there is graft and greed in the government, there will always be such in large institutions where men have seen how to flaunt the law, but that is something we must be ever vigilent and alert for, and insure tht the right people are put into place to govern wisely for the people whom they represent, and not just themselves!!

Fun subject. Consider this as well. We live under a permissive style of government. Under a permissive form, if you want to do something, just do it, unless there is a law against it. Most of Europe lives under a non-permissive style of government so when they come up with a great idea, they have to see if there exists a law allowing them to do it.

That picture is decidedly disingenuous, COL Mikel J. Burroughs, despite any good intentions by its creator.
For example, you don't need government permission to start a business, providing that the business is run by you in your own name.
And whether or not you need permission to build a house depends upon where you're wanting to build it. When I was attending Cal Poly, the local county's permitting requirements included an exemption for parcels of land greater than 5 acres in size -- so if you owned enough land, you could build without applying for a permit.
Similarly, in the absence of any other criminal activity, government permission is not required to leave the country legally, although the same can't be said for entering another country or re-entering ours.
Nor, in many places, do you require government permission to cross the road, although you probably would appreciate government regulations deciding who has the right of way if there is vehicular traffic wherever you're crossing.
[EDIT]
Also, one of my favorite horses to beat in discussions here: OUTSIDE OF ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE, YOU DON'T NEED PERMISSION TO SHOW RESPECT BY SALUTING INDIVIDUALS OR FLAGS IN WHATEVER MANNER YOU DEEM APPROPRIATE.

And that's how I see it. You don't especially have to have permission, for a variety of reasons laws are written by our representatives in Congress that we elect to do as we wish and signed into law by the president. I don't view that as asking for permission. Whether I like them or not.

Indeed, MCPO Roger Collins, the best way to explain it is that, while much of European law is written as "That which is not explicitly allowed is prohibited", the philosophy underlying our Constitution (and all laws derived from it) is "That which is not explicitly forbidden is allowed."

CRY, I can sit in a Government owned field and cry for the freedoms I gave years of my life to protect were actually just rules and regulations that keep the few few in charge of the many. I will keep fighting the good fight to leave the country a little more free for those that follow me.

Jeez, Col. When you picked brain food, you dialed in a feast. There's gotta be a comment on every bullet here. Should be a very lively discussion.

There are definately laws against polluting the water table in close set metropolitain areas! You are hiding from the law in what you say, and that action is against the law of indecent exposure.

While the Constitution limits the Federal governments abilitt to interfere in your life, it lets us impose State and local government that has imposed hundreds of laws, many of which are outrageous invasions of our private lives. And it's our own fault as we have a direct hand in the election of these people who believe they are a better arbiter of your life than you are.

It is true that there are many laws still on the books whch a silly in today's world. That is one of the tasks of those whom we elect to weed them out and get rid of them. If your Gov. Rep. is not doing that perhaps you should take action and remind them!

Sadly so many have been slurping at the government trough so long that people just knee jerk them into office because the name is familiar. In Michigan we have cases when the man gets too old to function his wife or one of the kids gets elected to the same post. Hey, this ain't a family business! You should not be able to inherit it.
