Not only stash contraband....but sell contraband. We had a freakin' supplement mafia in 1st PLT.

We had a dip mafia when I went through. Friends mailing me cans of kiwi cleaned out and put dip in. Sell to other privates. Never left my wall locker unsecured so DS's had no reason to look. No one thought twice about kiwi. Got caught week before graduation b/c they gave us 2 hours of personal time instead of one and some jackass was walking around with a dip in and then ratted. I admitted it because I figured it would get me out of MP OSUT on time rather than going through TDS and figured they wanted to see integrity. DS' took my overnight pass and made me stay in the barracks with my business partner and everyone else that willingly fessed up. Ate a summarized article 15 for that one though. Graduated on time and made a ton of dough and didn't get a money punishment just restriction for 4 days.

"Wow Drill Sergeant, you have beautiful eyes!" She smiled the entire time she was smoking me.

In 1980, Drill Sergeant Perrine imparted this wisdom to us:
If you hear any of these phrases coming out of your head, your are automatically WRONG!
- I thought,
- I heard, or
- Somebody told me
Wisdom of the ages right there.

My son would say have your TI (Air Force) go visit your E-8 father who just happened to be stationed on the same base and come back with a request from said father to do extra pt. TI loved it, my son not so much.

Sing while getting smoked... Oh how I loved getting smoked.
My mouth just couldn't shut it sometimes. Once I was told I had a great voice tho. Bahahaha
I was the squad leader and plt Sgt so I got smoked quite often.

SGT (Join to see)
I joined late, so it was hard to not give my opinion on idiotic things. It got better as I got more rank. I still took up for what was wrong or right. Sometimes people don't like hearing the truth, no matter how respectful you are. ;-)

Oh yeah, Platoon/Squad leader had targets on their back (I know first hand, *three* of my battle buddies got promoted to the position).
I personally was the "King of incognito"... for a while there I was responsible for cleaning the Drill office. Every day I would go in and sweep the carpet on my hands and knees using a hand broom, empty the ashtrays, take out the trash. Never said a thing, never made eye contact, just went in, did my job and tried to be "Invisible Dave".
It worked, my ears were open, my platoon knew what to expect for the day.

Tell them that your dad was a Drill Sgt for 10 years and they don't scare you.
As a side note, My Father in Law was a Viet Nam vet, and a Drill Sergeant but had a long break in service and had to re-attend Basic. None of his Drill Sergeants knew, until he was in his Dress uniform for graduation.
