What do you think about the Naval Acemedy's new position specific helmets?

I think that these uniforms look cool. While I have no idea how money works in big Navy I think it might be a bit excessive getting a new football uniform every year or so. I can see the PR attraction but is this necessary? Ahh, who am I kidding? I just want Under Armour pt gear. Thoughts?
For the first time in NCAA history, a college football team will have its players wearing different helmets during the game based on the position they play.
And no, it's not the Oregon Ducks.
The Navy Midshipmen will be wearing special "Navy Fleet" uniforms for the Army-Navy game on Saturday, Dec. 12, in Philadelphia.
Although the uniforms look sharp, the new look is all about the helmets.
There will be a total of seven different hand-painted helmets worn by Midshipmen players during the game, representing "seven of the historic ships that make up the U.S. Naval Fleet." Each position group will be assigned a specific helmet that will pay tribute to one of the seven ships.

Navy football is one of if not the only profitable service academy sport, so taxpayer money isn't supplying the uniforms and it isn't part of the defense budget. So I'm all for new uniforms :)

Most major college sports teams are paid to wear a certain company's uniforms and get the uniforms for free so this isn't costing anything. Besides that the uniforms and helmets do look cool! I am all for it (even if I am not Navy).

LCDR (Join to see) That's true of most universities, even public ones. Football carries the day for all the other sports.

If the Army was serious about stopping this ridiculous trend of allowing the Navy to win every year, they'd drop all the officers off the team and let the Hardest Hittin NCO Corps in the history of Mankind lead the way. We're DAMN good at taking and holding ground (yards too) and breaking everything in sight, and with our immensely effective E4 Mafia, you wouldn't even realized you lost until the next day. #DUTYFIRSTGOARMYBEATNAVY

PO2 Mark Saffell - It's all good brother. You cannot go to sick call when you loose....you're only authorized by the COB to go to the VA. lol

The "Army" football team is the US Military Academy (USMA) team. Players are Cadets attending the USMA. They are neither Officers or NCOs while students at the USMA. Officer and NCO cadre assigned to the USMA are not students and therefore cannot be players on the "Army" football team.

Sir, this is why the NCO's need to be THE team. Not looking for cheers, goodwill, or medals. We are who you call when it Absolutely, Positively has to be destroyed overnight. It's time to let us WIN the game. We've been nice too long.

IMV, its what is under the helmet, not the helmet itself. Losing doesn't look good, regardless of what you wear.

LT (Join to see), there's something to be said for trendy uniforms, and the helmets are something to behold. I guess it started with Oregon. I think among all the uniforms and accessories, Oregon could wear a different uniform every game for the next 100 years!
I personally prefer tradition and continuity with football uniforms. My alma mater, Auburn University (we're terrible this year, I know), has worn essentially the same uniforms (home and away) since at least 1957.
I really dislike the current trend of schools wearing uniforms that have nothing to do with school colors. Teams take the field with gray or black uniforms, and their school colors may be red and white or green and gold, etc. I'm glad that Auburn has resisted those changes thus far.

Utah Valley is a big school not to have football but lots of schools have added it recently so it may be on the way. It definitely does usually increase school spirit.

SGT Jerrold Pesz, maybe that black and orange worked for the Cougars on Halloween! They stomped Vandy 34-0!

LTC Stephen C. - Sir, it was being talked about as a future addition the year I graduated. The new(er) president has done some mighty fine changes in my opinion and I am hopeful that they bring a football team to fruition. We've been known for our baseball teams in the past. Football draws a larger crowd and, as has been noted, much more money. As UVU has even surpassed UofU as the largest public school in Utah as far as admissions. I think that it'll only be a matter of time before it happens. Not that admissions drives anything but that the interest is there.

Come on now! Oklahoma isn't a legit contender! Why? Well , they need a championship game instead of handing it to them! But Oregon has the best combo uniforms ever! Maryland has them too!

Haha, I didn't go to the academy. That is strange, the title originally asked "what do you think about this?". It was edited by somebody other than me and I have two different threads to which people are responding in my feed.

I remain unconvinced of the benefit of Service Academies in general, but I know I'm in the minority...

LCDR Rabbah Rona Matlow, what in the world does your comment have to do with this discussion thread? LT (Join to see) simply asked what the RP population thought about the Naval Academy's new helmets! MAJ Tex Hall

LTC Stephen C. if we didn't still have service academies, this would be a moot point. Yes the helmets are cool, but I just really don't see the point. And btw, I am a football fan...
