I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.

Funny story. Tsgt Dave Ransier goes into the fuel tank to inspect the work I did. While he's in there I place the access door over the opening. He gets back to the door and says open the door Dan. I say, "I'm sorry Dave I'm afraid I can't do that." After we both laughed I let him out.

Can we ask them out on a date and will they buy the first round of beer?
What happens when you fall in love with them, do they become like a robot cold like my ex and kick me out?

The ex might ask for it in the divorce, the concept of BOB just became more complex!

True, but if Bob can work he can pay the Bills, so no alimony. Then I will go and buy a Livin Doll that looks like young Julie Nuemar.

Think I'd rather have a service dog. At least they know how to love and the bond between humans and canines can be very strong.

"Social Robots" give the impression of caring so that the administrators can give the impression of earning their money.
At present the best they are able to do is to be "Pavlovianly Reactive" within the parameters that their programmers (a group universally admired for their wide ranging and eclectic social skills) set.
Soon they will be "Heuristically Reactive" within the parameters that their programmers (a group universally admired for their wide ranging and eclectic social skills) set.
If they ever get to the point where they are defining their own parameters of adaptability we might have to rewrite Genesis. (Or is this the "Apple" that God was warning us about?)

I am all for technology, but sometimes it goes too far and I think this may be what's going on here.

I strongly support the desire to use as many robots and robotic technologies as possible in modern business, regardless of the industry in which you work. But, of course, there are areas https://deusrobotics.com/industries/healthcare-industry/ in which the use of various technologies will be especially effective. I think that at the very least it is worth learning more about the healthcare industry and technologies to improve it.

I think this is very interesting and we should keep experimenting with this.

As some people have already stated this is quite an impersonal way to bulk up PTS assistance. Nothing compares to interacting with a real-life person or a pet for that matter whether service dog, cat etc. You cannot replace the personal connections (I understand that does not always happen when seeing counselors). But what about the other end of this? Who would fund the stock pile of these things, the maintenance staff for them and the customer support staff for them? The VA? The already tightly budgeted DOD? I assume cost to patient would be covered but if not, would Tricare or the VA even entertain a claim for one? and possibly throw in a copay for it too? I do not see anything that would make this worth while. Maybe I'm just on the glass half empty team for this one.

First thought beside Hal 9000.....
was the Parole Officers in the movie Elysium..
Humans are flawed at best, but we connect in a way that only be replicated, never replaced.

It's sad we have to rely on robots for the communication we need from a relationship with another human being.

As we expect more from technology, do we expect less from each other? Sherry Turkle studies how our devices and online personas are redefining human connection and communication -- and asks us to think deeply about the new kinds of connection we want to have.

I do not know about this for me. But if it well help someone then that's fine .
I also think that's another way to keep track of us.

I can see uses for it, but I already worry about us losing social interaction skills as a race. For PTSD I would rather a service dog.

Who honestly thinks we have adequate and caring staff at the VA??? LOL!!! Overheard at the VA to a diabetic, "You are only authorized 30 test strips every 90 days." THANKS VA!!! Good thing we have a civilian doc through my retirement!!
