What does the new President need to say on Inauguration Day to bring about unity?

Action will speak louder than words.. say nothing that will come back to haunt you. It will be dissected for the next 4 years.. what every press outlet will feed on "what did he mean by God Bless America??" must be a hidden meaning there... LOL

No matter what he, or she, says or does, it will be in how he is received by the Republicans in Congress. If they decide to block everything, like they did with Pres. Obama, then nothing he says or does will matter.

Did you notice your immediate reaction to the question which was one advocating unity? Your Pavlovian response was to immediately finger point. Not a condemnation, just an observation.

On the surface, you might have a point. But when you realize that while Pres. Obama was being inaugurated, Republican Congressional leaders were meeting to plan ways to stymie everything he tries to do. Not finger pointing, a statement of fact. Pres. Obama spent his first term trying to strike a conciliatory tone, to no avail. It did not matter what he said to bring about unity. By the same token, the next president will likely face the same obstruction, even if Trump wins.
I was not finger pointing, merely pointing out that it does not matter what he says or does if Congress has already decided to oppose everything.

The US Constitution allows for the POTUS to convene Congress. For example in the past 8yrs our President has had small talk in small rooms with congressional members. Or has just made a statement on tv or on foreign soil. So if Its so bad why wouldnt the POTUS address congress which the constitition allows for. For example if it were Trump it would be possible to see talks with congress as hes indicated. I dont know other candidates position on that.

Nothing said on Inauguration Day will probably matter. We'll be too busy focusing on the events of the election season or what other character defining moments happened before that. There can't be any real confidence on Day 1. That's built by experience. We can have faith on Day 1 though.

There will never be full unity we will always be divided because we divide ourselves.
