There's a stupid show called, "over there" I want to burn that set completely down! Horrific depiction of real Soldiers. Maybe national Guard it would be accurate lol

You forget 60% of the Guard are former active duty and most have served in the major theaters now. But, I know what you mean when you say they don't look the part.

Let's not forget Chuck Norris does not need to reload unless he does it for dramatic effect.

CHINA BEACH bothered me because the Hospital located near CHINA BEACH was a Navy hospital. There were no Navy personnel in the show. Otherwise, much of the stuff in the show was horribly authentic.

21 and a Wakeup was billed as a "true" story. Piece of garbage. I was one of the last three officers in the 24th Evac Hospital and the nurses had been gone for over a month when I left in September 1972. The hospital had shut down and we were turning equipment in.

LTC John Griscom - I met Chris McIntyre (USMC [enlisted to avoid being drafted] 67-71) who worked on electronic aviation navigation instrument calibration - with no relationship to 24th Evac Hospital personnel or operations. Marvin Wayne (trauma surgeon assigned to the 24th Evac in 71) claims the credit for being the source of the purportedly "true stories" depicted in the film. But, that is about as far as the truth goes in this overly dramatized extremely low budget ($3,000,000) film showcased at veteran fundraisers - that never saw any theatrical distribution - never saw any Netflix or other streaming media distribution - and is only available by mail order from the film's "official website." While the dramatization is there for effect - the movie made me cringe with disbelief about the plausibility of many of the people, behaviors, and events portrayed. Chris himself writes the film "encompass a dozen true incidents, most importantly those of Dr Marvin Wayne, a top surgeon at the 24th Evac Hospital in 1971." But, he goes on to claim "every event in the film and every major character has a basis in a real event and true story" - which is a bit much considering the implausible theme about one of our nurses freelancing with both Agency and Australian intelligence guys to invade Cambodia - killing two border guards along the way - to save a young girl from some secret bombing raid. This all feels too deeply inspired by James Bond, Rambo, Kelly's Heros, and similar movies. I hated the film - felt I wasted an hour and half of my life. This was left wing anti-war propaganda at its worst. Warmest Regards, Sandy :)

1LT Sandy Annala - Thanks, Sandy.
I got to the 24th Evac in September 1971. Don't remember a Dr. Wayne: he may have left before I got there. But can pretty much guarantee that if everyone had done what was depicted in that movie, the hospital commander, COL Straton, would have court-martialed them. Nothing was ever mentioned about anything resembling the alleged events. Things were not that loose in the 24th.
I was invited to a showing of the "movie" in Birmingham and there was nothing in it anything like the unit during my year there.
Best wishes, John

I do hate that as well. I that an example was the Star Trek reboot... a cadent, who didn't complete school, became Captain! It didn't work that way back when militias would vote who the wanted as officers, hahaha

"Armageddon" The scene when they were trying to detonate the nuclear weapon remotely from earth. A NASA scientist cut the signal and an Enlisted Security Forces guy basically tells him to stop and he sits down and starts typing in the NASA computer. I'm sure that's part of Security Forces training. LOL

Movies that show pilots moving the yoke like they are driving a car, and landing on any runway higher than 36.

Maverick slamming the control forward to "brake" the plane. Actually, this movement would do just the opposite.
