SSG (Join to see), Shame on you and your blasphemy! Hahahaha

PV2 J M The answer is simple. Who is the warfighter and who is the Support? Infantrymen (11B) are the primary combatant force of the military. Cavalry Scouts (19D) are nothing more than hilltop observers. They "creep" up in their moderately armored BFV, watch the enemy, and then call the warriors into battle. The Infantryman is the knife in the dark and the nightmare to the evil at heart. The Cavalry are Peeping Toms.

SPC Doug Donelson yet, even in all of that, despite all the buried friends and brothers, you have yet to articulate why the hell you have a right, reason or the audacity to get on my JOKE of a comment, sharing in the rivalry that I and so many other adore, and spew you pissy attitude. You drunk right now, guy?

SPC Doug Donelson good for you dude. That doesn't make you look impressive, just because you're old. Nor does it make even a lick of difference to me. Nor does it give you the right to jump on anyone's comment and act like a jackass. So kindly remove yourself from the room

That's why Cavalry is the choice for economy of force operations... a job that requires an infantry battalion is handled by a Cavalry platoon.

Once again, the term grunt is from Vietnam meaning General Replacement UN Trained. It does not, in fact, mean Infantry. So there's that.

As for a picture of a CIB, that really cleared up the discussion for the young recruit. A badge that is worth the same amount of points as a CIB and CMB and means the same thing. Well what about Riggers, they get a badge just for finishing AIT?

CW2 (Join to see) - The term grunt may in fact stand for that but it's no secret that it applies to infantrymen. How it came to be that way, I don't know. But that's where we are today.

As for the CIB, anyone in the Army should know a question like this would spark a back-and-forth between 11's and 19's. It's all in good fun. This young recruit got plenty of good answers to his question as well as an insight into how the different MOS' handle rivalry. Again, all in good fun. I served with just about every MOS overseas and was supported by the rest. We all know it takes everyone doing their job. BUT, the Infantry is and will always be the main effort that everyone else is supporting. That's not a slam on anyone else. It's just the way the Army is designed.

Coolness.
Cav guys roll around with very questionable headgear, and think they are cooler for it.
Infantry guys walk around everywhere, bitch about it, then brag about how tough they are to anyone who will listen.

SPC (Join to see) - Not following your logic in the last comment. But oh well. Just remember there are many of us that bled blue before you were a shot in the dark. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and CIB. Had more years as a grunt so I know both sides.

In response to the tanker comment. If the infantry motto is follow me, why do the infantry guys/gals always get behind the tanks?

MAJ Doug Mattox - Hell, even us Grunts know that tanks help prevent lead poisoning when out on the two-way live fire range :)
But you can't clear rooms or snatch-n-grab high value targets (enemy prisoners) sitting in an iron box. But we do appreciate the security tanks provide when doing the precision work in person...

What is the difference between 11B and 19D?
2LT Infantry Officer

They are different job/roles, even if some of their skill sets overlap.
The infantry is the main land combat force and backbone of the Army. They are responsible for capturing, destroying and repelling enemy ground forces.
The cavalry scout is responsible for being the eyes and ears of the commander during battle. They track and report their activity and direct the employment of weapon systems to their locations.
Primarily combat, closing with and destroying the enemy, vs. primarily reconnaissance, gaining rout and enemy information to better allow the maneuver and use of combat forces.

Infantry units may conduct reconnaissance, cavalry scouts may engage the enemy in direct combat, but their overall role and function is simply different.

SPC (Join to see) - in the words of the wiseman yoda...
“Much butthurt I sense in you. Cry like me and your wife’s baby, you should. Potent genes, he has.”

You’re infantry, bro! Refrain?? Weak sauce. Us tactical MI folks move in for the kill. I refer you back to my original description. “Well, we are the toughest, quickest, nastiest, warm-blooded, cold-hearted bastards you’ll meet.”
And you won’t have a better friend on the battlefield. Clever doesn’t begin to describe us.

Now, rally your thoughts and get back in the game. I’m still waiting for some proper ball busting. I don’t know what the score is, but you’re down by at least 6 or 7 touchdowns at this point.

I’ve got to stick up some for SPC (Join to see) here for a sec, your champion shit talk is notable, but that is one of the few subjects that is solid for a friendly ceasefire. Ball busting is all good, but it’s important to call off before rounds hit too close to home/become friendly fire.
I really like both of you, I just think that line of joking isn’t so funny for some bros.
I’d tag you too, but am on the road and my iPhone isn’t cooperating.

2LT (Join to see) - SPC (Join to see) a senior NCO Infantryman/cyber guy has weighed in. (Meaning, his word is good by me). A winner has been declared.
I can read between the lines. Make no mistake, though..those rounds weren’t just close. When I fire, I’m bangin’ for a 10 digit grid. And I don’t miss.
Now..I had years of practice. Imagine if I had said when attached (by myself more often than not) to infantry platoons, “cmon guys, that stings! Don’t tease me like that!”. Exactly. It would have been open season on me like I was a three legged cat and they were a pack of starving dogs.

That was a luxury I didn’t have. (Need, or want, frankly). It did, however, sharpen my teeth and thicken my skin. And just imagine the looks on their faces when they got this level of shit thrown at them.. while they were losing stupid push-up contests...that they challenged me to because I was some ‘pog’. Like I said, to do the intel work I did, “Well, we are the toughest, quickest, nastiest, warm-blooded, cold-hearted bastards you’ll meet.”

Anyway, I digress. For the record, and to soothe ruffled tail feathers, that’s not my baby. I don’t even know if you’re married, SPC (Join to see). Sooo...one team, one fight. You got my back, I got your front. And this will be my last blurb. I said it to hundreds of grunts in my day. “Brother, I can learn your job in about 4 days. In fact, I’m embedded with your squad, doing your job with you right now. But I’m also doing my job. And you have no idea what that job is. You couldn’t learn my job in 4 years. In fact, you couldn’t take a piss in the building where my office is at without an escort.”

My friend, this has been entertaining. I hope we cross paths again.

Just so your tracking you will most likely get a lot of stupid answers asking a question like that. How ever as a former infantrymen I will leave you with this. Every one likes to say they were pretty much infantry. No one ever says I was pretty much cav.

Ahhh, grasshopper. The differences are many, but so are the commonalities.

-- Basic mission: others are posting on this so it is covered
-- 19Ds have to have normal color vision; 11Bs just have to be able to tell the difference between the red (stop) light and the green (go) light.
-- Only 11Bs can earn and wear the highly coveted CIB and EIB, and the blue cord; 19Ds have the spurs and hats for functions, but it just isn't the same. Still, both of these uniform distinctions give each MOS an advantage when seeking companionship of the feminine persuasion at a ball. (I probably should say appropriate persuasion since neither MOS is gender-restricted now.)
-- However both know in their hearts that they are the baddest, meanest, toughest, yet coolest warriors that ever walked the face of the earth. This contributes to a certain confidence that causes all other support personnel to quake and quiver when either walk in the door.

Did you really just try to say that the Spurs and Stetson are for wearing at functions??? While not ever being allowed to wear them, I was attached to a 19D unit and was allowed to participate in a Spur Ride where Scouts EARNED the right to wear them. It was one of the most grueling, testing, and outright punishing experiences of my life. Right next door to us? an Infantry Recon platoon, where every soldier that had been there for more than a year had their EIB and most of them couldn't keep up with us in any joint exercise we completed. I know this may not be a fair measure of all Infantry (and god forbid a lowly artilleryman {13F} say anything about the infantry) but please do not diminish the Stetson and Spurs...

PFC Kevin Shelbrock Stetson and Spurs = "I walk good long time"

Cord/Disks/EIB = I am the subject matter expert in an entire field of expertise and can effectively complete my job with next to no amenities that I cannot retrieve for myself.

CIB = I am the baddest mother*cker in the Valley and I have proven it.

I earned that baby blue cord and I'm damned proud of it. I was an 11Bravo in Mechanized Infantry. That means we had the privilege of riding in a "coffin on tracks" (M113A1), then we walked the rest of the way.

Well Jordan you didn't get a direct answer to your question. As you can tell there is a lot of shit that flys back and forth between the different MOS's. When the shit hits the fan we all fight together thoughr. Good luck in what ever you pick. At least you are on the right path by not picking the Air Force.
