What is the single most improperly worn ribbon?

Every time I pick up a new issue of the Reservist magazine, I seem to see photos of people wearing the Armed Forces Reserve Medal (AFRM) improperly. It is probably the most complicated medal / ribbon in the military, but still, a Master Chief or Admiral should be able to wear it correctly. It is never worn without an attachment of some kind, so a naked ribbon immediately jumps out as just plain wrong. Are there other ribbons that rival the AFRM for improper wear?

Maj Kile hit the big one. Second to that one is the good conduct medal. Most of our awards the ribbon counts as one so if you have 2 then you only wear one oak leaf cluster, so on and so forth. The AGC is different in that when you have two, then you wear two knots (not just one), three awards, three knots so on and so forth.

Ribbons with numerals are the same way. even though its sold, there is no purpose for the number "1"

SFC (Join to see) - On the NCOPD Ribbon, you used to wear a "1" upon completion of PLDC(not sure what it is called now), and 2 for BNCOC, etc. But if I am not mistaken, that has changed.

I mainly wonder how they stay standing without tilting forward from the weight of all that brass.

A General asked me why I was wearing 2 of the same ribbons. I pointed out that the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Humitarian Service Medal are similar. He walked away.

Yes, if the Soldier is under the following guidelineFor Title 32 Soldiers, AR 670-1 (Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia) states, ARNG Soldiers are authorized to wear State awards under applicable State laws or regulations when assigned to the ARNG under the command and control of the Governor or Adjutant General, under the provisions of Title 32, U.S. Code. The term "State" includes the 50 States, U.S. Territories (which include Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands), Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. The following personnel statuses are included in this authorization: Active Guard Reserve (AGR); active duty for training (ADT), active duty for special work (ADSW); full-time National Guard duty (FTNGD) for special work or training, annual training; and inactive duty training (drill status), including periods when personnel may be attached to the active component or reserve of any service, whether paid or unpaid. Personnel will wear such awards in the State order of precedence, after Federal and foreign awards.:
Note: if that Soldier served in the Guard, left the Guard, and came to full active duty status (Title 10), then the Soldier cannot wear the State Awards he/she earned.

State awards are pretty silly, most of them are either redundant of a federal award or for something so small you feel embarrassed telling a civilian what it's for. I never wore them even when I was Title 32.

I received a state award and had to locate it on line because it was never issued, but appeared on my DD-215 when I got back from Afghanistan. I had no idea what it even was. To this day I don't have it or have it included in my rack.

SSG Genaro Negrete I received the Louisiana Emergency Service Ribbon during Katrina while I was Active Duty with the 82nd. Most of us didn't realize it was in outlr 201 file until years later, but we couldn't wear it anyway by regs as it was a NG award. Each individual soldier was awarded orders by their current CG at the time. I ordered one online for my shadowbox, and my old dress blues have one on it as well, but I never wore it during AD.

The Naval Reserve Medal.
It has not been awarded since 1958. I feel like I am always correcting junior Petty Officers who go get it, thinking that it is their Navy Reserve Meritorious Service Medal (Good Conduct), which itself has been phased out. The Navy is going to the single Good Conduct Medal for AC and RC.

I've got one with an Oak Leaf on it and a border. I want to say it's Joint Meritorious Unit and that is weird. Something about the Gold Border because the President signed it and damn if I remember why it required a that silly leaf in the middle but it just looks so odd.

We think the sea services are weird for putting campaign stars on everything. The gold borders only look weird buried inside an individual's awards. Unit citations are worn opposite of individual awards, with other citations with gold borders.

If leaders would educate and check their soldiers there should be no improperly wore ribbons! Just saying

Saw a picture of an officer on the wall of the PX in Afghanistan. I believe he was a general officer if memory serves and part of the AAFES chain of command. He wore both the CAB and EIB. I also have both and though they have nothing to do with each other you are not allowed per regs to display both. I would like to also wear both but regs are regs. Maybe he got away with it due to his rank.

In the past the ermb and cib could be worn together due to the eib being class 1 and efmb a class 2 badge. You are only allowed to wear one from class 1 and 2. Now i beleive you can only wear one class 1 or class 2 badge.
