If you and I were talking face to face, your dream car was parked on the street behind us, and I had the keys for it dangling from my outstretched arm, what would you pay to have it? To drive off in it right then and there?

1967 ford mustang shelby gt 500 eleanor
I would have to vote for the 1967 GT 500 Fastback Mustang, better known to most these days as "Eleanor" featured in Gone in 60 Seconds.

This is the Mustang that I pined for when it first appeared in motor mags. All aluminum frame and shell. V-4 mounted midships. When the Mustang reached the showrooms, I was ready to buy my first new car and went to the nearest Ford dealership. Boy was I disappointed. It was my Falcon hidden in a fancier shell. Same frame. Same suspension. Same 144 ci 6cyl. Mine was more powerful and faster because I had modified it. Still, I wanted a test drive. The salesman looked at me like I had two heads. Why? No one else wanted a test drive. They wanted a Mustang! The dealership had been taking orders and deposits for 6 months, sight unseen, price unknown. Still, I wanted a test drive. So, they borrowed the salesmanager's and I made it one block. The rear axle went into the familiar Falcon hop when I tried a panic stop. I made a U-turn and took it back. No sale. I bought a 65 Mercury Comet Caliente V8, black with a red leather interior. Much sexier and much better.

Had a friend that had one. We discovered that if I leaned forward in the backseat, while the car was moving at highway speed, and then fell back hard into the seat, the car would lose about 5 mph in speed.

You know why the Yugo had a rear window defroster? So your you hands didn't freeze pushing that POS in the middle of winter.

While I do agree with Cpl Kristofer F. on the Bugatti (Veyron) as the most exotic; my dream car has always been, and will always be, a 1971 Hemi 'Cuda convertible, four speed; the Holy Grail of American Muscle, only 11 convertibles produced, with only 2 of those in a four speed.

SPC(P) Geoffrey Fansher , love it.. but not the price tag! LOL! I'll still stick with my original choice though. New cars are very nice..but there is just something about the golden age of American Muscle that no new car can touch!

Sorry MSG Wade Huffman.

While I applaud your choice in cars, I have to say that the 1969 Cuda was the best of the breed. This is my opinion. Great choice though.

SPC Charles Brown , You really can't go wrong with any of the Hemi 'Cudas when it comes right down to it, but none are as RARE as the 71 convertible 4 speed with only 2 produced. (Hence the 'Holy Grail' reference). To be honest, I'd be happy with ANY of the original 'Cudas!

'66 & '67 are my favorite Novas. If I had one, it would have to be the '66 with 327, 350 hp 4speed. they were both pretty & fast.

Probe
What I would pay for and what I can pay for are 2 different worlds brother.

What I would pay for is of course a 67 Shelby GT-500

What I can pay for is this sweet 89 Ford Probe.

My dream car is what I'm already driving: 4 door Jeep Wrangler (and I think that may be in part due to the Filipino affinity for Jeeps ;o) ). I still has the "fun" of a convertable Jeep, but is now actually practical due to the increased size. Waited a LONG time for Jeep to finally make it. The only thing I would improve on it would be the gas mileage.

I'll take Uber, thank you very much. Driving isn't much fun anymore. Too many people on the road and most of them are assholes. Let someone else drive while I take a nap
