240 years of kicking ass, taking, names and continents. No matter what you call it, we're all a part of the Borg which is known as the military. You mess with one, you mess with all, and we WILL come knocking at your door. Anything that makes us different pales in comparison with what makes us the same (the Coast Guard are the red headed stepchildren). If anyone has ANY doubts, I dare you to go to flag call and not salute this.

TSgt Melissa Post - It's all good. As long as you believe it, that's better than any likes it could get...not to mention we're not done kicking ass yet.

Comradery in the Army was my favorite aspect TSgt Melissa Post.
While the Army has many long-established traditions, my favorite aspect about my military branch - the US Army - is the relationships I have built over 34 years in uniform with superiors, peer and subordinates. SPC (Join to see) SP6 Clifford Ward LTC Stephen C. SSG James J. Palmer IV aka "JP4"

Espirit de Corps that transcends generations. I meet veterans every day. Most of 'em say "Yeah, I was in the service." What? The Food Service? The Secret Service? Marines tend to self-identify early. It's cool to bump into a fraternal brother/sister, exchange the secret handshake, and have an instant bond. It's is fraternal character is apparent in the other branches... just not as prevalent.

True. I don't think I have ever heard a marine claim to be in "the service". He or she is a marine point blank. And never in the past tense. Once a marine always a marine...or so I hear

Some people call it propaganda, but it is so true. The sense of family that Marines have for each other. Even though I am in Thailand, when ever I run into a former Marine or Active Duty Marine, it is a family reunion.

I think each branch has that same commeraderi (spelling is probably wrong), but I will say this you Marines have it much stronger and for that I am epically jealous lol.

I was just memorized by so many who served in WWII & Korea when I served in the Marine Corps. And how very few talked about their experiences except to say " It was tough" and then they would stare off onto something in the distance.

True true....

I doubt not even half of our newcomers will ever experience their definition of "tough".

Office Surrounded by 15,000 CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament Protestors) Great Street Party Actually. Office surrounded by 15,000 pissed off British Muslims calling us Baby Killers after the Bombing of Libya in 86. Surrounded by Several Hundred Pissed off Hasidic Jews at the Capitol protesting the Prime Minister of Israel's speech to congress when I was stationed in DC in 88. I had a Front Row Seat for History for 21 years, what is not to like!

The travel opportunities. Visiting exotic places, meeting exotic people, drinking exotic beer, getting outstanding $USD exchange rates (usually). 30+ countries...loved it!

I can say that I have met different types of people I never would have met, tried different types of food never would have tried, and gone places I never would have gone even just here in the usa. U now feel liberated like if I wanted to just go somewhere there wasn't an invisible boundary keeping me from doing it.

If you want to fly, or advance your education, particularly as an Enlisted person, the AF is your best opportunity. Check out some videos of what it's like to be a boom operator, crew chief, or loadmaster. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC2LyLULKJE See what it would take for you to cross-train. Boomers have the best job in the AF. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYIk8gTI_wQ

TSgt Melissa Post - Don't know if you follow football, but my oldest son was on the 2008 State Championship football team and my youngest son was on the 2012 State Championship team. My daughter-in-law went to Baylor.
