I moved once using the movers. NEVER again. Anything of worth was destroyed. After that I got really good at DITY. The cats moved so much that the oldest one got into the UHaul cab on his own.

Reestablishing your kitchen & bathrooms.
It always takes two trips to figure out what food is and isn't in the house.
The first trip to the commissary gets all the normal food.
The second trip involves buying things like Salt, Vegetable Oil, Spices, and all the stupid little things like Plungers, etc, which you don't take with you.

I don't think we have ever finished a spice in 22 years. Hate switching the entire compliment of batteries in my household every other year. Also really hate paying deposits on propane tanks

The throw of the dice that is the final out inspection for base housing.
I finally just started going to the housing office and hiring one of the "cleaning services" they recommended......amazing how I never had to fix or pay for anything again.......probably just a coincidence......did make you go hmmmmm sometimes especially when out processing overseas and they all had same last name.

God bless my wife. she was always the "S-1" in charge of Admin. Making sure we were organized, all the paper work was in one place. (Orders, moving inventories, maps etc). The "S-2" recon and Intel of the new post. (Are we living on post or off post. What's the area like.) "S-3" plans and ops, (What steps are needed to clear post, housing, provost marshall for vehicle registration, is everything ready.) And finally, the "S-4" is everything organized for the movers, food and snacks for the kids, and everything else that goes with the supply chain. Yes, PCSing can be fun, for everyone except the "chief of staff", she never complained, always made the move "stress free" knowing that every 24 months it was going to start again. God bless my wife.

Just so you're aware, there is a new app that should help in the PCS process: Base Directory. Founded by a couple of vets, this may help in the process...

Having to wait at your house all day because the time frame the movers give you is anywhere between 0800 and 2000.
