Currently employed, but not in my field, so I am looking for a job in my field.

I am not using RP as a job search resource.

I'm a science teacher. I tend to have better luck on education-themed sites.

I'm currently using SchoolSpring.

Local word-of-mouth helps too, but is not as reliable.

I separated from service in 2007. I'm so old I doubt they'd have me.

I guess my situation is odd. I am planning to move to Europe in the next 6 months, but I have a job already lined up with my fiance's employer. Not working in my career field, but it will be enough to cover my expenses while I look for IT work in the Netherlands. Being a native English speaker will be a plus but my Dutch skills are terrible so I'll use the warehouse job to practice (although officially the warehouse language is English strangely enough) until I can mumble my way through an interview.

I was lucky, very lucky, I had a job and other offers and options, before I left active duty. I was on transition leave for 20 days, and started working as soon as I legally could, while on terminal leave. Contacts really matter, and reputation, and word of mouth is huge part of breaking through the masses. Elizabeth Malkin.

Most people I know, landed their retirement jobs via networking and service related contacts; not through just looking and applying.

Networking and my reputation got me my new job. The person leaving told me, I sent resume without even having a job description or ad posted, was interviewed and hired the next day. I have been working with individuals in this new position for over 5 years and I am a community volunteer.

The last 2 jobs I had I did not even apply for them. They asked me to come work for them in the last 18 years. I am retired but am always doing something to keep busy. I have a part time business that makes me 5000.00 a month. I cut tires up and take them to the land fill. It is extremely lucrative and I can do it on my own time with no restrictions. I also own a ranch and manage another mans ranch. Try some of these ideas. I got out of the service in 1988. I have had 3 full time jobs and 2 part time jobs at the same time. It is not easy but it can be done. My fault I have 180 semester hours of college and no degree but a lot of vocations.

I am INDEF, and most likely not looking for a job for (hopefully) the next 10 years. However, I like to think that the society on RallyPoint would be a good way to network and resource employment.

Great question, Elizabeth Malkin!

2d Lt (Join to see), great thinking to be doing some other things on the side whilst you wait for your new orders to come through. Great way to gain some more experience that will help you on the other side to showcase initiative and talent.

Although, I am not looking for a job now. I will be glad to advise other members how to apply to a Federal Government job or discuss about the Cyberspace Operations in general.

LTC Tony Temsupasiri, that is a great offer and one that I hope the RP community takes up! There are several people on this thread who have mentioned an interest either in working for the government or in the Cyberspace industry so you will be a great resource for them, thanks.

I am a Department of the Army civilian employee. I do not use RP to look for work as we have our own site for most Federal agencies:https://www.usajobs.gov/

Although I am looking, that is for promotion within the government and not to anything in the private sector.

With the job market the way the job market is today I see the first three as the answer to your question that is currently relevant to my situation Elizabeth Malkin. However, it is possible that I will give up and stop looking at some point.

I am currently looking for a job, will probably be looking for a job for the next 6 months, and most likely will still be looking for work a year from now.

SPC Charles Brown, I don't think we have that exact opening in the Southern Oregon area but have you checked out this site? http://or-counseling.org/networking/job-volunteer/ It shows lost of different jobs and ways to get involved in counselling in the Oregon area. There might be some good opportunities for you there.
