I do believe in forgiveness, but a person can't keep doing the same thing over and over. They have to learn from their erring ways. Saying I am sorry when you get caught is different than saying you are sorry when you recognize your own mistake. Hopefully he can move forward and be a better person.

I agree I am at the joking stage because like I said in earlier post the only reason it is even being talked about is that he is a public figure.

Like I said earlier, just go to the other anchors over the last 2 years. It is a joke, the accuracy rate is horrible. So what, they are putting a face up there. At least this man has been and still stands behind us with all the energy he has. That is something the rapid to condemn without knowing the facts just don't understand. The masked "I can forgive" bull crap. Before calling one out, first get your own glass house in order then before passing judgement perhaps we can look at the person, situation and all the things to be considered. What a shame so many are so easily swayed by others on the air that will report anything to get a rating. what a joke.

The same thing that happens to of the people with "Stolen Valor" his face and name should be plastered all over the Stolen Valor" website.

Now he has a bigger issue as a reporter and that is credibility. That is up to the American people if they want to trust him. The easiest way to determine that would be by their ratings. But know how stupid people can be they will say "but he's so nice", "but he's so handsome", or "I just like him anyway" and they will forgive and forget.

The same thing happens with people with various forms of PTSD. Take a look at the life of these anchors and embedded reporters. They come and go and from one disaster to the next. I personally have no doubt his memories are more merged than many of us could understand and apparently appreciate.
To me it is a bigger issue. It is an issue of .... what happens to anybody that lives in that life and environment for years on end.
I am concerned of the bigger picture, has or is it possible that his mind is over time doing what the same thing that happens to those that can no longer separate memories over time. To me, this is much more than a case of the so called stolen valor. Perhaps some should try and take a look at this mans career and the total situation.
To leave a loyal supporter on the field, is this turning of the back any different?"

CPO Don Alfera, thank you for your input. I think I will do a paradigm shift. I did not consider the issue of PTSD. You make valid points and I respect that. Maybe I will not be so hard on Mr. Williams. After all we don't know how frightened he was when the other helicopter was shot down.

Or the many other events he has been flown into at a moments notice. We often forget, the military is not the only ones that are subject to many of these things.
When you said that, I went and looked at the picture of him flying in the chopper, he looked like a rather apprehensive young man thinking what the hell. I think typical of many who would have been there or other very dangerous situations.
We also sell our troops short when we do not think, it only takes one significant or overwhelming sensory overload and shock to the system for long term PTSD to set in as is known to date. I don't mean to ride this, just so many show signs and yet we don't see them until they become cumulative and then there is often damage done. I have not been in his shoes, not seen his reality.

Sorry! I cannot buy that he somehow mistook being in a helicopter that was shot down for "another memory." You were either in a helicopter that was shot down or you were not, you don't mistake a memory that would last a lifetime.

It will be interesting to see if it even affects his credibility with his followers. I don't think NBC will do anything unless ratings suffer.

Don't think anybody should be counting on any of the networks for their news. Too much of the media is only there to recite talking points in as few seconds as possible. Personally, only a fool or a very ill informed person would ever count on these guys for real information that is not slanted. I feel real bad for those that only have fox in some of the lesser served markets, they really are hurting.
Will say this much, thank goodness most of the younger people today are internet savvy and are exceptional at fact checking. Now if we can get the rest to realize there are only 5 global players in the information market. That is other than those that are state owned. You will never get truth out of the king of gossip sales Rupert Murdoch, Ted Turner had his shot but now it is Time Warner Communications which is stock holder driven and just survived an attempted leverage takeover by Murdoch and MS was divided and kept the news division as a separate entity, but then of course those that are calling for his job are the same ones that still think the media are there to report the truth. The media is there to sell time to advertisers. Who sells the most, the one that tells the most sensational story with the most amount of people who will follow.
That is why Fox is banned from Canada broadcasting markets. They have been busted so many times with totally false information, sued and they just did not change, so they get booted from Canada as they can not pass the networks truth in reporting standards. Now that is when it hits bottom of the line.
It is not republican, democrat, liberal, conservative, progressive or wackjob on either side extremes, he is no different than the rest, he will just do what people will do with a microphone unchecked..... they talk shit.
This is why they all need checked and none of them deserve worship status.

Fire him...He has lost his credibility. As if NBC and its "journalists" had any credibility in the first place.

Integrity, a word that means so much to us. A word that use to mean alot to the news, but one that they lost for a bigger and better story. Cronkite, Huntly, Brinkley, Chancellor they had Integrity. Where are they now?

That's the thing with those"...and there I was; knee deep in blood and hand grenade pins" type of stories... You gotta make sure that "... you was acutually there".

His credibility, rightfully so, from this point on will be suspect. Did he do anything illegal, not technically since he didn't outright obtain financial gain - although, the point could be argued that his "mistaken" recollections may have put him in a higher pay range.

MSgt Michael Durkee, considering (the lack of) what happened to Dan Rather, criminally at least, when he falsified records to openly slander/libel a sitting President campaigning for reelection, I'm guessing not much can happen to Brian Williams from a legal standpoint either (then again I'm no JAG, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night).

Eventually, transgressions like this are going to anger the public so much that it will be too much bad PR for the network to weather and heads will roll. But considering NBC has no problem employing lying, slandering, tax cheats like Al Sharpton who torpedo the careers and livelihoods of public servants, I doubt this will be the straw that breaks the camel's back either. One can hope, though...

I hope he looses ratings, that is (in my opinion) why he was "mistaken" in his account of the events.
