He's a want-a-be. Who cares what he thinks, or what's going to happen to him. News people constantly say stupid things, give a limp excuse, and go on to do it again. There not worth a moments of our time.

He looks like an idiot now, that's punishnent enough. I'm sure his massive ego will help him overcome his deceit.

If his actions fall under the stolen valor statute, and if they don't its on the very edge, he should at a minimum lose his job. Well, except his NBC bosses apparently were ok with it for ratings sake. Disgraceful all the way around.

I agree legally he did nothing but lie. I don't think he should get fired. His rating will take care of that. But he should never be a war correspondent ever again or imbedded with troops either.

When it is looked at from a political position, liberals generally get a pass. Just think about if Brian Williams had been a conservative; he would have been forced to resign, why? Lying.

If he really did come under fire as he stated in his lie, what was the condition of the aircraft after he landed? Holes, or no holes? I think it should be handled as a stolen valor and Obama did sign this law into effect. Whether it pertains to civilians not wearing a uniform, I do not know.

This is not a big deal, all news people glorify events, do not think this is something to loose sleep over, plus Brian, who is a great commentator, did apologize for his misdeed . Now if a Vet were to were to have a similar incident, that for me is a no-no!
Burns me up when I hear some character bragging about his war adventures, and he can't even pronounce correctly the name of the base or area they were supposedly at, or what other squadron or outfit they were supposedly with.

Let’s talk about this “fog of memory” for a moment. On September 11th 2001, I was on Fort Belvoir, VA, when the Pentagon was hit. I know that I, and many of my co-workers, deployed to the Pentagon; however, I can’t recall if this was on the 11th or 12th. I have been in five traffic accidents, one mid-air engine failure, and two divorces. I don’t recall the dates, but I do the events. So, to me, this means that no one actually forgets the actual events of traumatic life experiences, they just screw up on some of the details. Sorry Mr. Williams, just not buying the apology; however, people lie. “In a survey of 2,000 households, 25% of users said they falsified information in their [Facebook] profiles to protect their identity, Consumer Reports said. That's up from 10% in a similar survey two years ago” (http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/04/tech/social-media/facebook-lies-privacy/). “According to a 2002 study conducted by the University of Massachusetts, 60% of adults can’t have a ten minute conversation without lying at least once” (http://mentalfloss.com/article/30609/60-people-cant-go-10-minutes-without-lying).

So what did Mr. Williams actually do? He did not fabricate news, unless you happen to think that a helicopter forced to land with a reported in it is news. He was in Iraq and one of the helicopters in his convoy was hit by an RPG. He embellished his role in the incident, that’s what he did. Let’s say he really did not see floating bodies during Katrina. Does that mean there were no floating bodies? There must have been, because I saw them on the news. I don’t know what possessed an articulate, intelligent, and charismatic person do to what he did and I am not here to condone his actions. However, I do find it sad that so many people appear to be enjoying his fall from grace and that we, as a culture, have done away with the idea of second changes. How have we become so intolerant and when did being perfect become a requirement? Life is not a zero mistake environment and there, but for the grace of God, go at least 60% of us.

Him having to face his audience will be punishment enough. He will have to deal with this, for the rest of his professional life, that's punishment enough. I had a standard line that I told all my new soldiers: "Integrity is like virginity. Once you loose it, you never get it back." I guess he will have to prove me wrong.

September 11, 2001, I was sitting at Gooding, ID waiting to load my truck with cheese. I hear it on the radio. I became more interested in the terrorist attack than waiting on the load. I was 51 then and I wanted my Army to put me back to work. I didn't care whether it was to throw chemical agents or the artillery; I have both MOS's.

I was at my office, at Fort Belvoir, VA. As I was walking out of by cube, one of the other folks had a small TV set and a group of people were gathered around watching. We all thought is was a small plan that hit the first tower, until we saw the second plane hit. CID is responsible for the security of the Dec Def, so we had around 20 agents there. Once they started calling HQ, to report the hit there, all the dots were connected I recall that we put a team together and headed off to the Pentagon, just can't recall if is was that afternoon, or the following morning. It seams like that was a million years ago.

In spite of agreeing with COL Jason Smallfield, PMP, CFM, there is one thing we can and should do. Continue to poke fun at him until he resigns or is fired. I've seen a good photoshop of Brian Williams in a picture with President Lincoln and General Grant.

Photoshoppers, how many wars are there that we can insert him in, until he is embarrassed to show his face?

What do you know? NBC must have found an ounce of ethics in a back storage room. United Press International says:

NEW YORK, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- NBC News announced Tuesday it is suspending anchor Brian Williams for six months without pay after a recent controversy.

The anchor apologized on Wednesday for incorrectly stating on several occasions that he was in a helicopter that was shot down in Iraq in 2003, when it was actually a helicopter near the one he was in. He had blamed the "fog of memory" for the mistake.

He said this weekend he would temporarily step down as the network investigated the situation. NBC News President Deborah Turness made that a little more permanent Tuesday.

She announced the news in an email to NBC News employees.

"We have decided today to suspend Brian Williams as Managing Editor and Anchor of 'NBC Nightly News' for six months. The suspension will be without pay and is effective immediately. We let Brian know of our decision earlier today. Lester Holt will continue to substitute Anchor the NBC Nightly News," she wrote.

"While on 'Nightly News' on Friday, January 30, 2015, Brian misrepresented events which occurred while he was covering the Iraq War in 2003. It then became clear that on other occasions Brian had done the same while telling that story in other venues. This was wrong and completely inappropriate for someone in Brian's position.

"We felt it would have been wrong to disregard the good work Brian has done and the special relationship he has forged with our viewers over 22 years. Millions of Americans have turned to him every day, and he has been an important and well-respected part of our organization.

"As I'm sure you understand, this was a very hard decision. Certainly there will be those who disagree. But we believe this suspension is the appropriate and proportionate action."

Sometimes we all get caught in saying something that is not quite true (lie), however, if it is not true then it is a lie. My problem with Brian is he is a public figure that has so much influence to the public. People are forgiving when you make a mistake but the issue here is not a mistake but a pattern of lying throughout his life. This is not one mistake but a lot of mistakes that take on the meaning called habitual liar. He is only apologizing because he got caught, take that away and he would still be doing it. His trust is gone so he should be removed from the public.
