How about assigning them a number, if you give them a name of any northern person, you can always find a reason they shouldn't be used

SPC Jasen E. - math is not racist. statistics can be manipulated to fit a agenda. But, pure math cannot be. 1+1 is still equal to 2, there is no way around that

SFC Kenneth Hunnell - I didn't say I believed it was, I said it was stated in an news story that some group was claiming that math, such as that on the SATs, is racist. Now, I never took the SATs, but I took/wasted a full semester of SAT prep, and I just saw questions asking for me to solve for numbers. But it genuinely was declared racist by some silly group. Just google the question, "is math racist?"

If they MUST be renamed (although I do NOT agree with trying to re-write history; good or bad), then I agree with LTC Kevin B.. Name them after Medal of Honor recipients. But I believe in my heart that they should be left as is.

My suggestion is to leave them alone, they are part of our history and we have erased too much of our history already.

Funny, you guys are the ones trying to erase history- don't want CRT in schools, let's not dwell on interment camps for Japanese-Americans, of wholesale destruction of Black communities, of Race riots against chinese Americans, about discrimination against Jews in housing, education, and employment. Let's talk about ALL of our history.....but that doesn't mean that all of it should be commemorated or celebrated, "Don"

Fort Benedict Arnold
Fort Chelsea Manning
Fort Bowe Bergdahl
Fort Robert Hanssen
Fort Aldrich Ames
Fort Julius Rosenberg
Fort Noshir Gowadia
Fort Ana Montes
Fort Edward Snowden
Fort John Anthony Walker (Probably should be the name for a Navy base)
Fort George Trofimoff
Fort Antifa (Why does the name have to be of a single person?)
Fort Black Lives Matter
Fort NAMBLA
Fort Reparations (Maybe political proposals are just as good as a person's name)
Why not? These are names which should appease those who hate America, rather than support those who defend America.

CPT Chris McGowan you didn't provide a SINGLE quote in your meaningless diatribes accusing the secessionists of treason, and you have the gall to complain that I cherry picked my quotes? At least I included quotes.
And now you back up your biased opinion by quoting another biased opinion; a book that meets your prejudices. I see nothing above that denies the 45 years history of the North conducting economic warfare against the South prior to the war. Of course any facts that don't line up with your prejudices must be ignored.
You may claim to have studied the wars, but so have I. I at least made my studies with an open mind, looking for causes beyond the rhetoric. And if quotes from the people who were there at the time, leaders and trustworthy sources of the antecedents of the war aren't sufficient, it only proves my point; facts cannot penetrate a closed mind. Well, I knew when I made the original post that facts wouldn't matter to you and that I was wasting my time. I'll try not to waste any more time on you.

They are not interested in the actual truth, this movement is not based on truths or facts nor do they look around themselves today seeing a very similar country this very day that has been divided by politics and bias against the Southern and conservative states today.

CPT Chris McGowan - I also provided cites from history and quotes from people living at that time. You can stick your head in the ground, your fingers in your ears and pretend that only what you believe is the truth, but that doesn't make it so.
Anyone taking the most cursory look at history can see that taxation was a source of friction between North and South 40 years before the Civil War. It takes a WOKE SNOWFLAKE to state that anyone fighting to keep the names and statues is fighting for the KKK. We've taken the woman off syrup, the pretty lady off butter, the man off converted rice, and somehow world peace, or even American peace has not broken out. It takes a moron to believe that peace will only be attained when you have finally browbeaten every last citizen to Critical Race Theory.
YOU, YOUR LIES, and YOUR PITIFUL ATTITUDE are a disgrace to Army values, and to American values of hard work, self reliance, and personal responsibility.

CPT Chris McGowan - No it is you who are sad and pathetic.
For example, the statement YOU MADE, " ... any fighting to keep those statues and names up is fighting for the KKK ...", is a LIE. First, because you don't know everyone opposed to renaming bases or keeping statues, but second, because it's a childish taunt that anyone who disagrees with your viewpoint supports the KKK. I don't support the KKK, so even if every other opponent of renaming bases and removing statues does, your statement is still a LIE and therefore you are a LIAR.
Woke troublemakers use this tactic regularly, lying about someone else in an obvious "Ingroup-Outgroup" appeal, for example the regular whine from people like you that anyone you disagree with watches Fox. I don't watch TV, so it's obvious that I don't watch Fox, but it's a simple means of discrediting someone you haven't the intellectual capacity to actually discuss or debate with. (I taught psychological operations, so it's useless to play such games with me.)
Woke propagandists also use "Appeal to Experts", having carefully chosen their "experts" to confirm what they want to believe anyway. So your "reading list" might as well include Kendi and CRT texts or specious works of fiction like the 1619 project. The cites and references I give are from history, not recent propaganda.
No, it really is you who like in a bubble, insulated from any criticism of the propaganda you desperately want to be true. It's really you who are sad; so terribly disappointed that you can't shout down anyone you can't browbeat into accepting your fantasies. It's you who are demonstrating the woke "virtue" of intolerance.
You can continue to embarrass yourself by posting your childish diatribes to me if you want. All you are doing is making yourself look foolish, and who am I to argue with that?

I have no problem with changing the names and I really don't understand why anyone would. I can't imagine any other country naming things after traitors and losers. Each of these men waged war on the United States for the express purpose of keeping the right to enslave their fellow men. Naming a base after a confederate general is like naming a base herman goering airbase. Not only were they horrible human beings, not only were they traitors, they also lost the war so why would we ever honor them?

SFC John Robles - Pretty sure there were plenty of people at the time who judged them similarly. The point is even if you forgo all the south's moral failings in the civil war you still have to reconcile with the fact that you're naming a military base after a general who lost the war. I prefer to have things named after winners personally. Or at the very least people who fought for the military and the country not against them.

Today's cancel culture has been canceled by me. It's a passing fad and not permanent. Not one penny from me to change any names on military posts. They do NOT have my permission nor will I give it.

SPC Andrew Murray Had I been present at the time these bases were named, I would have strongly objected most. THAT IS NO LONGER RELEVENT. As many of the excellent posters have pointed out, these Posts became central parts of the lives of tens of thousands of American heros. You are NOT dishonored confederate General Bragg, you are dishonored the heros who trained there, and used that training to liberate millions from tyranny. Who will liberate us from THIS tyranny???

I believe since it is going to happen regardless how one thinks. They should rename them after our Iraq and Afghanistan fallen MOH heroes. It would be an excellent way of showing our respect and showing we really do mean Never Forgotten.

Sophistry and political warfare entrenches the nation while military officers successfully take control of the nuclear keys without arrest and someone thinks the renaming of military posts for some social justice pyrrhic victory is important?
Most of those posts were named from men from the last civil war. I suspect the renaming will not be finished before the next one...
Probably not a good time for erasing lessons from history...but for a little bit of levity before the war..
Fort Miley - For showing us an oath to the Constitution is not binding if keeping it hinders your political ambitions. Who needs to be in the command chain for 1/2 the worlds nuclear weapons if you can find 13 cowards like you in uniform who will deal you in in secret and suborn the civilian control of government?
Fort Biden - For showing us any crime, like sedition, is OK as long as you like each other and as long as you order the evacuation of an alleys country it does not mater what order you do it in as long as it is dated for political reasons and not military timelines and for showing up as dead American soldiers arrived back in country while watching you watch waiting for it to be over...
Fort Fauci - For designing a way to get most of the ethical soldiers forced out of the military with a virus he helped pay for while lying to Congress about and then getting caught and still not getting arrested...Seeing a pattern here?
The rest of the post could be named for American hostages that President Biden, Secretory Austin and General Miley lest behind...oh wait we would need a few hundred more military posts... or we could punt and use that general who made sure he was the last person on the ramp of the last plane out, except for the photographer...think on the hubris of that...

I would love to see AP hill or fort Lee renamed to honor Audie Murphy who died here in Virginia(specifically in plane crash near Roanoke in Catawba). The Roanoke National Guard use both of these installations for training and deployment and would be honor for them to host the name of the most decorated soldier! the 29th division has lots of history and would be the perfect honor for to bear the name "Audie Murphy"!!!
thoughts?
