According to the military portion of my townhouse rent contract, according to the realtor's interpretation, I would have to pay a full months rent even though I'm leaving at the very beginning of the month. Is this right, or am I getting scammed? I provided the realtor several months notice.

Your housing office should have the answer. I would advise reaching out sooner than later. Thank you for your service.

Thanks for the response. Since I'm currently working at the Ptgn, they don't have a housing office, but there are some support specialists who handle PCS moves that I could speak to. Thank you for your service as well.

You could try the housing office at FT. Meade or FT. Belvoir.

If you have given proper notice, usually 60 days, no, you should not have to pay the entire months rent. You have given the realtor/landlord ample time in order for them to list the property. In this case, you are not responsible to pay rent when you have legally provided the proper notification, military clause or not.

It all depends on the contract. Ive seen both ways before so its not unheard of, but Id certainly see if a guy who knows a guy in JAG or outside law office can look it over for ya.

You could also leave at the end of the previous night and shack up in a hotel if it saves money.

Thanks for the suggestions! Unfortunately, I'm past the point of pushing the date of my move up pursuant to the contract. I'll try speaking with the JAG. I read that Virginia law requires them to prorate the rent to the date of termination, but the way it's written is confusing and leaves room for ambiguity.
