This is a fun survey to get an idea of how diverse we are as a service. Different regions of the US have different cultures and traditions, different speech patterns. However, it is interesting how much we grow as a person and service member when we are exposed to the world and other's views. So where do you come from?

Born in KY, lived in TN AND the great state of Alabama. Lived in Orlando, Denver and El Paso too plus Korea and Germany for 35 years then moved back home to watch over Mom & Dad, he's 83 this year and Mom is 82. They both walk at the Church Family Life Center every day and even spend some time on the elliptical machine. Plus, I had been told I had less than a year to live with the pancreatic cancer diagnosis. I had The Whipple Procedure (Google that one!) plus 6 months of 24/7 chemo. Worked until the last month and was sick as a dog. After they are gone we'll move back to TN for a few years but will then retire to Estes Park, CO. Imagine Gatlinburg on steroids....

Born and raised in Cedar Rapids, graduated from UNI (GO Panthers!!!) before going Active. Recruited out of Cedar Falls and I think I even rode my bike through Charles City on RAGBRAI...or at least was very close on at least one? Was an Army Guidance Counselor at the Des Moines MEPS from 2002 to 2008.

Very cool MSG Brad Sand! Charles City has hosted RAGBRAI years past! Hey, by chance do you know 1SG Michael Burton? He was my recruiter (E6 then) out of Sioux City when I joined in 2008. Just glad you are not an ISU fan, lol!

Yes, I remember SGT Burton...and I would guess he remembers me too. Depending on when you joined...I might have worked with your record? Do you remember your GC? If it wasn't me, I am sure know your counselor as well...even if you went to Omaha MEPS.
For the record, I actually do pull for all the Iowa schools (sometimes ever for Drake?)...unless one of them is playing UNI...and have been to more ISU games than U of I (living in Des Moines makes ISU a lot closer, and it is so easy to get tickets).

What a small world! I went to DSM MEPS, but I don't remember the GC's name. Who knows?! Lol. My brother is an ISU alum and continues to live in Ames so I understand your sentiments. I hope to get back to Iowa some day...

Yes, the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is the longest name of any state. I think the founding fathers had some size envy going on.

I grew up in Jacksonville, SGT Jeremiah B.! I went to Robert E. Lee High School when it was THE cool school in town! Don't know what it's like now.
I went to BCT, AIT, Basic ABN and SFTG with a good friend from Lake City, who recently retired as a Circuit Court Judge in the Florida Third Judicial Circuit.

Small world! Englewood High School here, LTC Stephen C.. I don't think anyone ever described EHS as cool. haha Lee's side of town hasn't changed much as far as I know, but I haven't lived in Jax for most of my adult life.

I'd ask about your friend, but I don't know many people in Lake City and I don't think I have any retiring judge relatives in that area.

I haven't lived in Jax in forever either, SGT Jeremiah B., but I still have many friends there and visit on occasion. I played football (we were terrible) and ran track while at Lee. You'll be pleased to know that the two years I played varsity football we lost both years to Englewood (once at Englewood). Also, my junior year, the county track meet was held there as well. The best thing was that since Lee's home field was so terrible, we played all our home games in the Gator Bowl!

A lot of Hawkeyes seem to be answering this question MAJ Danny Clark...which is a good think but a bit surprising to me for some reason?
