I've got to agree with you on the sleeves SPC Edward Tapper. Back in the day when we could wear the sleeves up, you are right on! Having the reverse, "pull in case of nbc attack" sleeves did look a lot neater, Pain in the but to initially roll, but better looking!

SPC Edward Tapper, this is not about rolling sleeves but the best overall uniform. Personally from a biased Marine perspective I do like the way we roll our sleeves. Our rolls are much tighter and neater, I always thought it looked goofy rolled the way you all did it, though I can see what you mean. But in all honesty if the sleeve is rolled is the camouflage concept not already defeated?

@Cpl David Schaffer, in that case I do prefer the Army digital camo vs. Marine digital camo. Keep in mind, during an NBC attack, Army wins at dropping sleeves to cover exposed arms. We simply grab the cuff and pull down. You have to remove your blouse to unroll yours. In 100% honesty, though, I really do like the Marine Utility Cover better than the Army Cover.

Nobody rolls their sleeves in the field or combat, only in garrison, so that point is invalid. Additionally, the army generally sucks at rolling their sleeves (this from a Marine who switched to the army). I will say that I like OCP better than MarPat though

Well it sure as hell isn't the Navy.
Camouflage: noun
the act, means, or result of obscuring things to deceive an enemy, as by painting or screening objects so that they are lost to view in the background, or by making up objects that from a distance have the appearance of fortifications, guns, roads, etc.
clothing made of fabric with a mottled design, usually in shades of green and brown, as that used in military camouflage.
Yet, in the Navy we sail on big gray ships and wear blue camo patterns which stick out against the ship like a sore thumb. Though, I suppose if you went overboard you would be perfectly camouflaged from the rescue party but, that's probably the last thing you want in that situation.

Best? The various multicam type patterns the Army is working with.
The guacamole green Navy digital pattern blends decent, better than the Marines' dirty green ones, and far better than Army ACU and Air Force ABU... Although I guess there's something to be said to blend in with the ubiquitous gravel that covers just about every forward US location.
Then, we have the Navy blueberries. The paint theory sounds OK, until you realize there's no chance of actually getting to wear them with paint specs on them. Same thing happened when they decided to issue coveralls. Everyone wanted them inspection ready.
Honestly, I thought the service wide woodland and 3 color desert camouflage worked well. Possibly better than a lot of the new patterns.

You have to remember when looking at the definition of camouflage that the goal is to hide you within your environment. Sailors belong at sea. We did a man overboard drill with a dummy in a set of cammies. We had a hell of a time finding him. :)

But with those blue cammies you are camouflaged quite well with the water if you fall overboard

I disagree. There is too much black in the pattern (not an abundantly natural occurring color in nature unless there was a fire) and the pocket layout was useless once we started wearing body armor all the damn time.
As a Marine, I will admit that in my opinion the army's OCP (not to be confused with UCP) is the most effective camouflage pattern across the board.

No one is even going to comment that while the Coast Guard is in the photo...they don't have camo????? lol
I am very disappointed in you guys! You have to understand that whenever anyone starts telling service jokes and there aren't a bunch of Coastie jokes we are very disappointed. lol
You know when you get out of the CG if you wanna work at the local gas station...you're all set! lol

I mess with my sister all the time with that one. My brother is an E-7 gun bunny, and my sister is up for master chief. If she gets it, I am buying a Halo costume and sending it to her to replace her current uniform;)

I think it is because we are talking about branches of the real military, not the bench warmers who want to think they are military hahahaha

Why do you have to be 6 feet tall to join the coast guard?
So you can walk ashore if your boat sinks.

Marines, no question. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't become the standard across all branches.

The old Pickle Suit and original BDU's were all service uniforms. I think it is a total waste of funding to change uniforms all the time. I started in the Army with AG-44 Wool dress Greens, tan Poplin Shirt, Service Cap, Garrison Cap, black socks, white underwear, and low quarter shoes. Brass belt buckle and black belt with brass tip, OD Overcoat, and Beige Raincoat. The AG-44 Was changed to an AG-344 polyester and wool coat, trousers and caps. The undershirt went from crewneck to u-neck because a dependant complained that at the end of the day the shirt was offensive because the neck showed dirt, after every one got u-neck shirts another dependent found hairy chests were offensive and back to crew neck. The fatigues had other issues, the block hat was just fine until Fidel's revolutionaries were using it and Fidel announced he was communist, then this was the Fidel Castro hat and had to be replaced with the baseball cap. Then the black boot socks had to be changed to Green, the cap toed Combat Boots, were replaced with capless KP boots. Then came the jungle boots. The belt tip and buckle was changed from brass to subdued for fatigues and later BDU's. Then the Two summer uniforms the long sleeved Khakis and short sleeved Khakis were first combined to short sleeved and modified short sleeved Khaki's then dropped and the poplin shirt was replaced with a short sleeved and long sleeved green shirt, and an extra pair of AG-344 pants to replace the Khaki pants, the OD overcoat and beige Rain Coat , were replaced with a black Over/Rain Coat. After my time the service cap, Garrison Cap, and Baseball Cap were all replaced by a stolen Black Beret. The BDU's were Replaced by ACU's the ugliest uniform ever, and "Because we were at war the entire U.S. Army started wearing this ugly uniform everywhere! on and off post, to ceremonies. In my day Fatigues and BDU's were for work details, field duty, and to and from home only. Originally Class A uniform only for off post or garrison ceremonies. Class B for office duty or after hours on post this was the short sleeved Khaki without tie. The Army of today is battle hardened and much more combat experienced then the Cold War era veterans. But they have lost the spit and polish and dress uniform mentality. The ACU fails as camouflage, fails as a neat appearing uniform to be proud of, looks like something out of a hobo jungle. So much money wasted to get the worst looking military uniform ever, and velcro in a combat zone? What about noise discipline??

I gotta say the dark pattern that the Marines wear. Though I do have to admit that I really like the look of the multi-cam that the Army is going to switch over to...or Scorpion pattern, whatever they're going to call it. Also side note, I think its a bit odd that they couldn't get even one Marine to pose for this uniform picture.
