I am all about helping the military in any form or shape and was curious who here is a lifetime VFW member Like I am. Did you ever think about becoming a VFW member or have helped the VFW

I've been a lifetime member since 2011.
I am thinking about going. Here in town, Bakersfield, CA, there are some where the post is different from the meetings. In some cases, the meeting is closer but the Post farther than where I live to a different Post. Does it matter? What should I bring besides a DD214?..Thank You for your time.

I would encourage anyone interested in joining to NOT use the online website but rather go speak with a member of the local VFW, it will benefit the local post (and national as well) which is what you are really wanting to do, make a difference in the area around you.
Also, take an active role in the post once you are a member. There are many patriotic programs that exist to help the local community, without active participation those cannot hope to have the impact they are intended to.

I will Brother. I spoke to one of the POst Commanders at the local V.A. Outpatient Clinic. He described how some posts are Honor Guard and others Race-related. I am willing to give it a chance. Conversely, the VFW has had a pretty bad reputation in Florida concerning Stolen Valor. As a SNCO, I believe I can look at some recent DoD Docs and determine whether it is crap or not.

Roger that MSgt, but ultimately, like we all know, where a difference is needing to be made it takes some unique people to step in and take charge.
I believe, with appropriate membership, any one Post should be able to handle all matters from Honor Guard, a 'pub', Buddy Poppy Drives, further patriotic programs (Voice of Democracy, Patriot's Pen, Loyalty Day, Memorial Day, Patriot's Day and Veteran's Day) and the like. The problem is people don't always understand they can be involved with such a 'niche' and participate with their favorite parts instead of everything...which burns some people out and leaves it to about 5-10 'core' folks that do what they can to spread across the entirety.
I'm glad to read that you're willing to be the difference and get to the bottom of things. Could be that even if the accusations are true, to stop further harm from being done your direct intervention could make all the difference.

I am a life time member. I belong to Post 4287 in Orlando, FL. They offer a program where you can volunteer to help doing stuff at the post like painting, maintance, etc... if you do 40 hours of volunteer time they will pay for it. That is how I got mine. Wonderful post and encourage anyone that visits Orlando to go to Disney or any of theme parks to drop by and visit! We welcome any member like family!

I'm a life member. I'm also a member of AMVETS and IAVA. I would certainly like to become more involved with VFW activities, but to be honest, I get the feeling they are out-of-touch with the current generation of war vets.
