We kill leader after leader. The high profile targets and each time someone new steps into their place. They change their names (Abu Khalil Al Sudani), to try to hide their identities and still we kill them. They hide (Osama bin Laden) and still we find and kill them. Each time it seems like a victory until the sun rises and then someone new is standing in their place. ISIS is no longer a terrorist organization. It is Political Entity that has an Army and it operates like an organization (company). How do we fight a state? We learn about how it operates and we understand the threat. To defeat ISIS we must destroy it's critical capabilities and the ideology that goes with it. We have to go after the money that is funding it. The people that are living under the feudal reign of ISIS are becoming disenchanted with the idea of fundamental Islam. We need to exploit this.

Wrong question. Wrong approach.

You can't defeat these organizations by "killing" members. You defeat them by destroying the ideology & philosophies that makes them worth joining.

Better ideas defeat worse ideas. Women know radical Islam is harmful to them. Women want equal treatment under the law. Sometimes, revolts against an ideology start from within, with a better idea and a few brave souls.

Letting those inklings of ideas take root, or be discussed.

CPT (Join to see) I think we need to continue knocking off the snake's head, because it does slow down their momentum momentarily, but that is not what will win this war. This war has to be won by converting this radical form of Islam back to the true peaceful religious beginnings and understandings of Islam:

Islam: is a monotheistic, Abrahamic religion articulated by the Qur'an, a religious text considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of God (Allāh), and, for the vast majority of adherents, by the teachings and normative example (called the sunnah, composed of accounts called hadith) of Muhammad (c. 570–8 June 632 CE), considered by most of them to be the last prophet of God. An adherent of Islam is called a Muslim (sometimes spelled "Moslem"). ‪

Muslims believe that God is one and incomparable‪ and that the purpose of existence is to worship God. Muslims also believe that Islam is the complete and universal version of a primordial faith that was revealed many times before through prophets including Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. They maintain that the previous messages and revelations have been partially misinterpreted or altered over time, but consider the Arabic Qur'an to be both the unaltered and the final revelation of God. Religious concepts and practices include the five pillars of Islam, which are basic concepts and obligatory acts of worship, and following Islamic law, which touches on virtually every aspect of life and society, providing guidance on multifarious topics from banking and welfare, to family life and the environment. ‪

Jihad means: "to strive or struggle" (in the way of God). Jihad, in its broadest sense, is "exerting one's utmost power, efforts, endeavors, or ability in contending with an object of disapprobation". Depending on the object being a visible enemy, the Devil, and aspects of one's own self (such as sinful desires), different categories of jihad are defined. Jihad, when used without any qualifier, is understood in its military aspect. Jihad also refers to one's striving to attain religious and moral perfection. Some Muslim authorities, especially among the Shi'a and Sufis, distinguish between the "greater jihad", which pertains to spiritual self-perfection, and the "lesser jihad", defined as warfare.

Within Islamic jurisprudence, jihad is usually taken to mean military exertion against non-believer/non-Muslim/Muslim combatants who insulted Islam. The ultimate purpose of military jihad is debated, both within the Islamic community and without. Jihad is the only form of warfare permissible in Islamic law and may be declared against illegal works, terrorists, criminal groups, rebels, apostates, and leaders or states who oppress Muslims. Most Muslims today interpret Jihad as only a defensive form of warfare. Jihad only becomes an individual duty for those vested with authority. For the rest of the populace, this happens only in the case of a general mobilization. For most Twelver Shias, offensive jihad can only be declared by a divinely appointed leader of the Muslim community, and as such is suspended since Muhammad al-Mahdi's‪ occultation in 868 AD.

Somehow we have to convince the Islamic population throughout the world that their religious beliefs are theirs and we should acknowledge that belief. Somewhere down the line we (Infidels - a person who does not believe in religion or who adheres to a religion other than one's own) isn’t the enemy. One religion should not try to convert or cleanse the other.

Maybe someone out in RP land understands it better than me, but this is where the problem needs to be solved (at the root). All religions should be able to live on this earth and practice those religions and not persecute the others that don't follow their religion.

I probably have this all wrong or is doesn’t make sense, but it does to me. Find the root cause and work to change it – short answer!

Do we really want to go down this road??? When people start realizing who is REALLY behind these groups and who is funding them as well as laying down the path for them to come into our country unnoticed and wave their rights to defending this country many will be shocked and many will say " I told you so !!!" Do we really want to go down this road??? Wasnt Bush good friends with terrorists???

I never hear enough investigative reporting about where they get their money, arms etc. Cutting off the oil from Nazi Germany helped win that war. Japan had no oil too and slowly went dry too.

The ideology must be killed, only then will you be able to stop them. Fighting ISIS is not like fighting a regular army as depicted. It's recruitment and voracity of its followers are based upon an ideology that can not be removed with the targeted killing of higher echelon members. Doing so only reinforces their us against them view of the world. Kill the ideology.

It is not about killing the people. You can't kill them quick enough. You will have to kill the ideology. We don't have the will to do that.

I miss the old days. Politicians Identify the enemy, Then tell the Military to SIC EM.
All this hearts and minds stuff is crap.

Patton was right, grab em by the nose and kick their ass. Once you have their attention dialogue becomes possible.

I really don't know CPT (Join to see), however, if someone does, I wish they"d hurry up and get it over with. The ideology has been around for over a thousand years, not the radical Islam, it's going to take alooong time to smother.

There are some obvious immediate targets -- al Baghdadi and his top few tiers of ultra hard core crazy bastards. They are former Baathist, well organized and trained. They've got the financing, but we are wearing them down, tightening money movement globally, social media is doing it's part. Then it's nut-cutting time and do you go after the aptly labeled cancer - the psycho army? There will be blood, lots of kids. This is their civil war, it's been brewing since we put the Shi'ia in charge. The responsible Islamic governments are cracking down on crazy mullahs. Don't kid yourself, the Gulf states have serious skin in this game. They are locking up religious fanatics and nut jobs, they've restored stability to Yemen. Religion has always be the root cause of bad things. Read some of the history of the area. Read "A Convenient Hatred" the story of antisemitism across history. Fair to say things aren't as violent as they used to be but people have always suffered and been killed in this region. We don't understand it. We support our friends with logistics and intel, but leave them to their future.

Bill Whittle on PJTV frequently mentions "mowing the grass" as an anti-terrorism strategy. I believe he's right. Keeping the SOBs in check is a bit like tending the lawn. It has to be mowed periodically to keep it in check. Leaders, followers, supporters, all of them. Every blade of grass needs mowing, not just the taller ones...

All of them (I couldn't resist). If they fly the ISIL/ISIS flag, they're fair game. If they support terrorism in any form of fashion, they're fair game. The biggest roadblock to success currently is our seeming acceptance of sitting back and waiting for some random drone operator to find a target of opportunity. Evil must be actively sought out, pursued and destroyed with coordination across all fronts.
