Describe the worst boss you've worked for and why you come to that conclusion? Was it a personality conflict, or something more severe? Was it the way they treated people, did they use double standards?

I once had a 2LT assigned as my Platoon Leader. She was an English Lit Major and used to correct notes I had written to myself on my desk with a red marker. When the First Sergeant went on emergency leave i took over as acting First Sergeant. While at a SGM's meeting with the other 1SG's the subject came up that the S1 needed a LT. I was happy to volunteer one......

CSM Michael J. Uhlig The worse boss I ever had was a One-Star General who would not stay out of my business as a Brigade Commander when I was deploying. We had words one-on-one (thank God) or I would have been a LTC real quick. In the end I stood my ground and got two other BG's to get this sucker off my back. Later during the deployment (by the way he got sent to Germany) he abused his power as a general and was releived of his flag officer status and retired fromthe military as a Colonel. What comes around goes around!

Sir to be honest, I won't degrade a fellow marine, so I will post my worse civilian Boss.I was managing a Store for Fred's discount Stores and my Regional Manager was replaced by a lady. I had made such a good impression on being new with the company and turning the Store around. Our sells was way over projected budgets and I always spent less payroll than the budget allowed. The Senior Vice President ( at a Store Manage/ Corporate meeting) was bragging on me to her and firing questions on how I had brought the next to the last store in that region up to the number one store in the five catagories they scored store managers in. At lunch, I was invited to sit at his table with other Vp's and regional Managers. He kept firing questions at me. He told the table to take note of my answers and to pass them along to their perspective teams. At the end of lunch he slapped me on the back and said you have a bright future with us son. Then he looked at my regional Manager and said keep an eye on him, he will be moving up, and if you need help trouble shooting in your region, call him. Her face turned blood red. For the next six months she rode me hard, put me down to District Managers, other Store Managers, spread false rumors on me. I had to watch every step I took. My Assistant was a Vietnam Vet and we had worked in management together at Kmart's for several years until Kmart Corporate closed the store. ( Not bragging, stating a fact, my area was the only area in the store making a profit. The store as a whole was losing money.) She approached my Assistant on my day off, not knowing we were tight, asking him to help her pretty much hang me. Of course as soon as she left he called me and told me everything. She would tour my store and not being able to really find anything wrong, she would just start dogging me on anything, you should have more than two rolls of toilet paper in the shoopers' restroom, you have some dust on this window sill, I saw some cigarette butts in the parking lot. Why can't you get 100%? After 6 months, of this I was getting pretty fed up. She came in and began knit picking again real hard saying you can't have this as a display or tear that endcap down, then go to other stores and have them set up the way I was set up. She started hurting my sells, Moral in my associates began to drop. I finally just told her, look, we are the number one store in your region. We must be doing it right so just get the hell out of my store. Red faced, she left. Two weeks later she came back with my DM and intentionally picked and argument with me. I just handed her my keys and said this is what you want right? Shove it, I'm going back to Kmart's and see if they have a position for me. The DM followd me out trying to talk me into staying and saying he would smooth it all over. Told him no thanks. Left there and went to Kmart's in Calhoun Ga. Talked to him. He pulled my file up on the computer. Gave me a drug test, filled out the proper forms, hired me in as Night Manager told me to be there the next night at 10 pm. The Regional Manager at Fred's was replaced two months later and demoted to a job that did not involve working directly with the stores. I guess she was afraid I would get her job, but she lost it anyway.
