Why all the silly questions and copy-paste-post of obscure news?

Seems like many are posting non-sense questions and copy pasting obscure news articles. It's outstanding that folks want to be involved, but come on really! Are the points that important to you? Shouldn't we actually post discussions that pose a question that provokes thoughtful, content-based responses! A lot of these discussions only receive one or two responses, but I suppose if you flood us enough with them it might get you a few points and they will start to add up. I really don't want to be disrespectful but asking what time I get up or how I tie my shoes etc, etc is really boring and annoying. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way and I'm sure I will be slammed by some. But it is only my opinion and don't amount to a hill of beans. Personally I love the questions on world affairs, veteran issues or anything that will help our serving members today. I actually don't mind the political discussions if they are legit and provoke reasonable discussions. If I offended anyone I apologize but I just had to rant and get it off my chest. I hope you have a good day and I won't be offended if you tell me I'm crazy and out of my mind!

It is an attempt to make this just like every other web site. The same select members make it their mission to post 20 regurgitated trending stories every day from all the other web sites we were fleeing from. It has been brought up repeatedly, has been discussed daily, and has been dismissed. In a nut shell, if you don't like it, seek life elsewhere, but they will hate to see you go. This is the reason so many of our quality members are inactive or flat out quit. Posts that were laughable a year ago are good to go.

1LT Scott Doyle - Put me down for a RallyPoint PT belt.
I don't recall anyone singling out a specific member, or a specific ridiculous thread, but only agreeing with the illustrious MSgt (Join to see) , who has always been known in the community as an impartial, level-headed, slayer of the troll, and all-around good egg. Judging by the 50+ up votes in such a short period I would say he is discussion an important issue that many members have. If I am understanding the upcoming changes, we will soon be able to tailor the content of our RallyPoint experience by filtering out everything certain members post (at least that is my understanding) and this will be a non-issue. Admins are not here to tailor this site to their wants and to silence members with varying opinions. That is why certain member admins have lost their privileges.

Thank you Mark! As I mentioned in the original post it was only an opinion. And we ALL are allowed to have an opinion even if it doesn't amount to a hill of beans. I do pass on post I do not want to participate in. That does not mean I have to like them or that I am not allowed to state or post it in a question/discussion of my displeasure. I did not specify what was non-sense or boring in my eyes. But I did state what I like and enjoy. if you assume yours fits in the category I expressed thats on you not me. I hold no grudge if you dislike the post. SGT (Join to see) told me he did not like it and explained that to me and why he down voted it. I have the utmost respect for his actions. I will state it again, it was only my opinion as a Rally Point participant. Have a nice day everyone!

Feel free to vote down any discussion which you think is not worthy of being posted on RallyPoint. When a discussion gathers sufficient down votes, it will be removed from the general feed. Also, if down votes are never cast then the original poster can never know that their post is considered inappropriate.

Influence points. To some RP users, influence points are a god -- an idol. Or, they think that the influence points will make them a god of RP...

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA
TSgt Hunter Logan Obviously, my comment is an opinion, a guess, a theory to explain the proliferation of news feed regurgitations from a few RP members.
RP's mission is to help service members and veterans lead more successful and fulfilling lives. It is for all SM's, Veterans, and their supporters.
The vision of RP is that of a Community united by the bond of Service. Some RP Admins are concerned that an overabundance of RP posts that could be found on any news feed on the internet supports a regression from that Community to a more generic social media site, a la FB.

What difference does it really make? No one is forced to read or answer anything they don't want to read or answer. Anyone can scroll through the "Answers" drop down menu and see what is new or trending. If you don't like it, ignore it. No one on here is the judge of what is important or not important to a military member or veteran. There are still plenty of professional discussions on here with a lot of good back and forth. I don't think anything will change the nature of this because it is the nature of social media. Even on LinkedIn, I see discussions I feel do not belong there. I just ignore them. Anyone can do the same thing on here.

1LT Scott Doyle - I have no problems recommending Rally Point to any SM or veteran. I just went through the 25 new answers. 14 were relevant military or veterans topics, 2 were military history related, one was humorous, the rest were not really military related but that does not make them irrelevant to others. The issue may be more with the search features because I have had issues trying to find a specific topic. I don't know how you would regulate it anyway. I think there would be even less members if some of these conversations were not on here.

At least on Facebook I can block and not see the completely irritating people. Here on Rallybook when you go to new and you see 20 inane posts from the same individual you have to scroll through it is disheartening. Limit everyone to 3 or 4 discussion posts a day. Or just eliminate the point thing. There is no way to tell who earned them from interesting relevant posts and who did by posting every story off of some news site or by asking irrelevant questions about your favorite food or color.

Hi SFC, I completely understand but you are able to block people and unfollow discussions you don't like.
How to block and hide another RallyPoint...
RallyPoint allows any member to block another member. Blocking a member will hide the content they create (discussions, ...

SSG Carlos Madden - So if I block someone I won't see their questions? When I click Answers - New I won't see the 10 posts asking about shoes and favorite color?

Blocks can't be overridden or undone by admins. In fact the only one who can undo a block is the person who put it in place.

No further info was required as I am aware how the block feature functions. If there is a specific question, please email the support desk.

Since I am unable to reply to a few who replied to this post due to them BLOCKING me...I'm replying here...as for the Beans, chips and ice creme threads...these are posted in "FOOD" "FOOD and BEVERAGE" and in "HUMOR" and if you or others do not want to read about these sort of things...to participate, have a little fun, be a little humorous then you don't have to.....These posts were posted to have a little fun...and many RP members had a lot of fun with it.
Isn't the whole reason to have different Groups is to have those topics in discussion...so if someone posts something about uniforms then it goes under Military...and if someone posts things about China Sea it goes under foreign affairs and China and China sea... These post are separated by Groups and topics and for those of who who have a problem with some posts....then don't bother with those posts...IGNORE them...Don't read them...Don't participate. MOVE ON and go to a post that interest you. If it upsets you SO MUCH, then IGNORE those posts so you won't be upset.
My goodness....there are many types of people/members here on RP with many likes and dislikes...something one person finds interesting, another person finds boring or useless.
Isn't the whole reason for the variety of groups/topics so that it covers everyone's interests?
As for Copying and Pasting....Yes, I've taken a headline...changed it up into my own words and then copied the URL for the story...but not to make points....It's because i disagree with the story...or because I can't believe it or because i find it interesting and I want others on RP to interject their thoughts and feelings...I want to hear what others think....are there others who think like I do....or are there those who agree with the story I just posted. There is a lot that I read every day online from four or five different news papers and two or three news outlets...some stories jump up out at me and I post them on RP...SO what! if you are not interested in it, then don't read it.
I've posted questions that have nothing to do with a news article...just to get a discussion going and to learn the likes and dislikes of other RP members....SO what! If there are some RP members who find this irritating, then DON'T read it...Don't Participate...then you won't have to get upset.

SGT Forrest Stewart
LTC Stephen F. - why is it that so many "adults" on RP act like spoiled children? I wish I knew.
Regardless, thank you Steve, and thank you Sgt. Kelli Mays, for hanging in there and making RP a better place for everyone! God bless you both.

Even worse than newcomers stopping in and leaving, old-timers like me are fed up and barely stop in, let alone post anymore.

Every time this topic comes up I have consistently said the same thing. It is about the points! Some members just can't resist posting topics about what your favorite color is? And then we have all the members who agree with these types of post all chime in and say how important it is that we have them! I don't post much, I don't contribute much anymore because of this!
I will make my suggestion again to fix this...give us a mindless dribble topic catigory, or an I need attention catigory, or a I love Facebook catigory, what ever you PC Admin members would think is appropriate. Then move ALL of these posts to that topic catigory and the rest of us can still use RP for its intended purpose. Someone explain why we can't make that happen? Alas, that has not and I predict will not happen.

I can be humble when I need to be. This is a case where I need to be humble. I hate all of the tension, CMSgt (Join to see) . It's in 1LT Doyle's court now. I realize he can't do anything until I remove the stupid block, which will be in 5-6 days.
