I have worked with all the services frequently during my career. I see the ups and downs in each service. The Army seems to have the biggest attitude towards itself though. I would like to hear thoughts as to why Soldiers seems to talk bad or dislike the service that I love. Some may disagree this is true, but I do not think I am off base by stating this.

****FOLLOW UP QUESTION****

Do you think it is possible for the Army to ever show the universal pride in service that the USMC does?

Men respond to the standards that are demanded of them. The Marines have, long, had a history of demanding extreme performance, because their lives and success of the mission has always depended on it.

In specialized combat units of the Army (Special Forces, Rangers, Paratroops), you can see a similar Esprit de Corps. The lives of the unit rely on 100% performance by the members. "If you won't give it, get the hell out." As you get farther from the Combat Arms, emphasis gravitates to be more on Job Proficiency, rather than Esprit de Corps.

Now, take the Air Force. They can seem to operate in such an "Office Atmosphere" that I have wondered how they can ever motivate their troops to bust their backs. But if you have ever seen the Proficiency of a Loadmaster in the back end of a C-130, you will soon realize that this is a man who you CAN trust with your cargo, your life, and a multi-million dollar aircraft. So the bottom line is, "No. You will never make a Marine out of a common Soldier or Airman, but we all get the job done in our own ways"

I don't think any branch of the military has more pride than any other. We may express it in different ways. We all sign that contract, and all take the oath. We all give that blank check to the government that includes our lives to protect our country. We all obey the orders given. I am a Vietnam veteran and got out of the service when I came home. Years later, I went back in the service, wound up involved in the hostage rescue attempt under President Carter, and later was in the Persian gulf. I finally retired under President Clinton.

CSM Carl Cunningham I respect all Services their ability to be proud and be the best at what they do. However each and everyone of them are different I am proud for each one and would fight for each one. Now May I remind you the Army is spread far and wide and is a huge collective of individuals with a massive amount of diverse units so the pride sometime flows down individual small units. For the Army to show Army wide the pride and dedication that the other services have would be an entire Mission in its self and would take away from the Army's collective Mission. We have branches that for the most part are unheard of or non existent. How do you show your pride? Well with a plaque you hang on the wall in your man cave after you get out. We have entire branches that are dedicated to just Ordinance, Infantry, Armor, Artillery, Supply, Transportation, just to name a few. We have Army National Gard and Reserves that if someone didn't tell you about you would not know they exist. Now with that said it is simpler for you to have Great pride at a smaller unit level than over all Army. All are proud of the Army but as far as Army being shown I think it is better to keep it on a Smaller level. We just celebrated our 244th Birthday June 14th. For the Marines 244 Yrs Nov. 10th 2019. Navy Oct. 13 2019 244yrs. Air Force Sept. 18th 2019 72yrs. Coast Guard Aug. 4th 2019 227 Yrs. I think we all have tons of pride and for good reason. Last but not least Yes we have some Soldiers that bad mouth the Army as I have heard some of the same things said from all the other branches of the Military that will never change in my opinion because many of the people that enlist are not ready for the real world. JUST MY TWO CENTS

We do take pride. Just because we aren't used in posters, parades and props doesn't mean we lack pride in our branch of service. Like the Marines, we all work hard and don't look for modeling career opportunities. Mission first!

I'm a retired Marine and yes while all think all Marines are proud of being a Marine that just is not true. Just like any service each one has its pluses and minuses. However while being on recruiting duty that is when I came to understand that each person joins a particular service for their own reasons and while we have the reputation of being the toughest and the best I have to come to respect all who have the courage to don a uniform and serve the red white and blue without reservation. I have seen plenty of Marines that shoe lack the lack pride that you say you see but I felt it was my duty to take those Marines and mentor them regardless if they wanted it or not. While each branch has its challenges understand the ones that dont appear to be proud of their particular service they probably would have the same attitude even if they served in another branch. So continue to serve proudly and if need be weed out those bad apples or continue to mentor them to change their mindset and/or attitude.

I don't quite know what to say...I've always thought it started in Boot Camp, you basically torn down
then made as a MARINE...Always and Forever...The Few, The Proud! I am 70 and STILL a MARINE!
Semper Fi to All my Brothers...

Both the Army and Marines are envious of the Coast Guard. Recruiting waiting lists are miles long. Our recruiting staffs are few and far between. My home state of Indiana no longer has a single recruiter. USCG may not have the bling of the Marines, but our traditions and culture are just as strong. There is a reason recruits wait months to take the oath; Pride in serving this great country.

Those of us that back our Branches of our military to the fullest, are beginning to be few & far between!!! Our Society is what is at fault!! What do we do about it!! Build a time machine I guess! However, I believe that the respect that is deserved and that is not backed up is due, in Large, to the members of our Government!! They say many things but but don't follow through when it comes to the voting process!!! The is wrong, all the way around.
Look at the overall treatment our Commander in Chief is treated!!! Agree with him or not, He is our Commander in Chief, voted to that Rank by the majority of the people of the United States. Has anyone that has held this "Rank" ever been hated as much as our present CIC??? Not to my knowledge!! I do not & have not agreed with EVERYTHING that he & his predecessor's have/will do. That is my right!!
It doesn't negate the Fact that he is our COMMANDER in CHIEF/PRESIDENT!!!!
EVERYONE SHOULD RESPECT THAT!!!!!!! I DO!!!!

You know after I think about this I don't agree at all. I think the Army has as much pride and the Marines. We may not have the fancy blues the Marines have but it isn't always about "the look"!!

We had a lot of pride when our Army Armored Divisions destroyed Saddam's Armor Divisions.
