They pretty much NAILED it in the Declaration...

"That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government,"

States can most certainly tell the Feds to Pound Sand.

MSG Pat Colby - The only problem is that unlike last time... The UN, NATO, Islamic extremist, Chinese, Russians... and everyone else who hates would join the fight. And when we pull our troops back home to stop the uprising, the void will be filled by those same groups (much like Iraq). as the quote goes, "I am sure which weapons will be used in WWIII but WWIV will be with sticks and stones" (I know I butchered it a little but the point is there)

This wouldn't even be a discussion if the Federal Government left to the states everything they are supposed to leave to the states. The scope of the Federal Government is supposed to be a lot smaller than it is.

In 1860, they didn't have nearly as much intrusion in the state level affairs as now. I do agree the fed is too big

We tried that once, resulting in about 600,000 American deaths. There is no ballot provisions for doing this. As to the states functioning without DC, that is backwards, DC gets their revenues from the states. All DC does is redistribute it after taking their vig. Buying votes with our money and extortion should we balk. Case in point, the over riding all expectation of privacy by our school children.

SSG Pete Fleming - A little off topic, but in many aspects, the public doesn't have the requisite knowledge on some issues to vote intelligently, for example matters that are highly classified. Our system is flawed, but a representative form of government is the best at this time.

MCPO Roger Collins - So are you saying the vote is pointless? After all before the internet and 24hr news people less informed. It is sad just how many people don't research but still, we will never now everything we just make the best decision based off the information we have. The same with buying a used car, agreeing to a date, or anything else... how do you know the dinner you ate (or the food used) was prepared by a place that follows all the health standards? Sometimes we just do the best we can and hope the choice was the right one.

Is that what you got from my statement that gave as an example of highly classified material? The only time our personal vote matters is in local elections. Anything else is through a member of Congress IAW the Constitution, if your input is used, it is because your input is in accord with theirs, not the other way. That is why Trump is so popular, we the voter, are tired of being ignored.
