Senator Ted Cruz here, what questions do you have for me? (Answering your questions on Feb 26th!)
*Senator Cruz will be joining us for a live Q&A on Friday, 2/26 at 1:00pm EST. Post your questions below in advance of the Q&A. Questions with the most up votes will be answered first. Please be upfront and to the point with your questions. RP Staff will be monitoring this discussion.*
From Senator Ted Cruz:
America now faces a momentous decision. Almost a decade of irresponsible defense cuts has slashed the number of combat personnel, seriously degraded their combat readiness, and shrunk the size of our military below any reasonable standard. If America continues to lead from behind, we will lose the ability to guarantee our safety at home and abroad.
Our all-volunteer force deserves better. They deserve a leader who will provide them with the finest weapons systems and the best training. They deserve the full and unapologetic support of their Commander-in-Chief, not a minimal commitment and overly restrictive Rules of Engagement.
Furthermore, Americans make up the finest military professionals and veterans in the world, and they deserve an investment in their careers, their health, and their families. We must honor of our military members, families, and veterans by ensuring they receive the respect and care they have earned.
Under focused, new leadership, America can, and will, rebuild our military and take care of our veterans.

I am genuinely concerned with the amount of laws and regulations we have in this country. It has come to the point where I don't feel we have true freedom anymore. We have freedom within the outlines of the law, which becomes more restricted every year. Many of the laws we do have don't fulfill their intended purpose, due to the state of our Justice system. As President, would you do anything to reduce Federal regulation, give power back to the states and local communities, and evaluate the effectiveness of our Justice system?
Additionally, I am concerned about our nation's health. Our communities are plagued with unhealthy habits to include lack of sleep, exercise, and poor nutrition, creating a burden to our economy (reduced productivity) and the healthcare system. Is there anything you would do to empower health and wellness across our nation?
Additionally, when it comes to health care, we need to repeal every single word of Obamacare, but once we have done that, we aren't finished. Three things we should to:
1. Create a nationwide marketplace by allowing the sale and purchase of health care plans across state lines.
2. Expand health savings accounts so Americans can pay for routine health care in a tax-advantaged way.
3. De-link health insurance from the workplace so that people don't lose their health insurance when they lose their jobs.

The Cruz Five for Freedom “We should shrink the size and power of the federal government by every and any means possible. What does that mean? That means eliminating unnecessary or unconstitutional agencies.” – Ted Cruz Summary The total federal debt currently stands at $18.6 trillion, larger than our entire economy. That is up 75 percent since President Obama took …
That's the reason so many religions talk of "your heart": your religious beliefs root into the deepest part of you, and what's rooted there, you believe religiously.
Today we look back and the thought of a state banning interracial marriage is absurd, just as our grandchildren will look back on a state trying to ban same-sex marriage.
Secondly America has no official religion and the founding fathers recognized that when they drafted up the Constitution. How are you going to maintain the separation of Church and State? I ask being you've repeatedly used religion in many of your talking points as if Christianity is the "sole" religion in the US and the one that should be catered to. So are you willing to alienate those who are of a different faith to appease what you personally believe in, or are you determined to bring them together in a means that recognizes all of them equally, and provides protections for all of them equally? When I say equally that would mean you would condemn the Jewish courts that are in America along with the Sharia Law courts that many believe are here, but aren't officially here.
I feel that much of your message and intent is getting lost due to the shear number of players on the field at the moment. How are you planning on addressing that?

The usual rubrics of "growing the economy" to make the difference sounds well and good, but how specifically do you expect a change to improve the overall economical climate?
Some detail here might help you win at least one voter who is leaning heavily towards another candidate.
One thing I would like to point out though is that the "Growing the Economy" and the "Tax Plan" must be looked at as independent concepts. Think about it like the Brakes and the Accelerator on your car. They just do different things, but work in conjunction with each other. Modifying the Tax Code is like changing how we apply the brakes. It doesn't actually "grow the economy" which is a product of Acceleration (a different factor).
If we were talking about a household budget, it would be like curbing your spending (reduction of expenses) to get more money versus getting a higher paying job (increased income).
Therefore more taxation is NEVER going to grow the economy. It just can't. Money has to be spent to do that. In order to promote that idea, we have get out of "save a dime mode" and into "make a dollar mode" which is more likely when you release the Brakes...
Does that philosophical model make sense?

This is in response to a prior statement you made, which I agree with: "Instead of a federal government that seeks to dictate school curriculum through Common Core, imagine repealing every word of Common Core. Imagine embracing school choice as the civil rights issue of the next generation that every single child, regardless of race, regardless of ethnicity, regardless of wealth or ZIP Code, every child in America has the right to a quality education. And that's true from all of the above, whether it is public schools, or charter schools, or private schools, or Christian schools, or parochial schools, or home schools, every child."
Additionally, under my Five for Freedom plan, I’d abolish the Department of Education and return education to those who know our students best: parents, teachers, local communities, and states. And I’d block-grant education funding to the states.
SN Greg Wright, it was me. All me. Slaved day and night for 7 weeks and 2 days.

Was that a typo when you wrote: Interesting the saving of religion laws lean so 'heavenly' in favor or one religion.?
