Senator Cruz,
I am genuinely concerned with the amount of laws and regulations we have in this country. It has come to the point where I don't feel we have true freedom anymore. We have freedom within the outlines of the law, which becomes more restricted every year. Many of the laws we do have don't fulfill their intended purpose, due to the state of our Justice system. As President, would you do anything to reduce Federal regulation, give power back to the states and local communities, and evaluate the effectiveness of our Justice system?

Additionally, I am concerned about our nation's health. Our communities are plagued with unhealthy habits to include lack of sleep, exercise, and poor nutrition, creating a burden to our economy (reduced productivity) and the healthcare system. Is there anything you would do to empower health and wellness across our nation?

Regulations need to modified and adjusted from time to time, however that's sort of difficult when politicians from both parties are heavily funded by the very industries that want to dismantle regulations designed to protect the environment and our health.

Great question it seems these days laws are made to fix laws and then new laws are made to push someone's agenda to get a atta boy. We have was too many laws and the example of organic foods is an excellent one. Yes we need laws but not to the point where it dictates every little thing. Great question!

This is a great question. We should shrink the size and power of the federal government by every and any means possible. That means eliminating unnecessary or unconstitutional agencies and rolling back overbearing regulation in a detailed plan I’ve released here: https://www.tedcruz.org/five-for-freedom

Additionally, when it comes to health care, we need to repeal every single word of Obamacare, but once we have done that, we aren't finished. Three things we should to:

1. Create a nationwide marketplace by allowing the sale and purchase of health care plans across state lines.

2. Expand health savings accounts so Americans can pay for routine health care in a tax-advantaged way.

3. De-link health insurance from the workplace so that people don't lose their health insurance when they lose their jobs.

Why would we as the American voters want to elect a presidential candidate who is so heavily influenced by your personal religious beliefs? For example voting against extending benefits to veterans in same sex relationships? how are we as Americans and veterans supposed to take you serious when you say you support us and what we do yet when legislation is trying to be passed we clearly see by historical actions that you only care about heterosexual veterans?

Read the writings of President George Washington or President Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address. These great leaders were also influenced by their faith in God.

I think that this is part of the problem, everyone wants the Federal Government to come in a control their lives, until they don't agree with them. Same sex marriage is a STATE issue, it should of NEVER became a federal issue.

"Why would we as the American voters want to elect a presidential candidate who is so heavily influenced by your personal religious beliefs?" Cruz' **particular** religious beliefs, or those of any given candidate? The truth is, EVERY candidate, whether for POTUS or an E5 board, and every one of us as human beings, is heavily influenced by his (or her) personal religious beliefs. You are too. Not that I know you from Adam or Lucy's brother, but your human, aren't you?

That's the reason so many religions talk of "your heart": your religious beliefs root into the deepest part of you, and what's rooted there, you believe religiously.

SPC(P) Jay Heenan - Wrong. Discrimination is a federal issue, and always has been. The arguments against same-sex marriage raised in 2015 by religious conservatives in Obergefell v. Hodges were the EXACT SAME arguments used against making interracial marriage in 1967 by religious conservatives in Loving v. Virgina.

Today we look back and the thought of a state banning interracial marriage is absurd, just as our grandchildren will look back on a state trying to ban same-sex marriage.

Thank you for coming. This a two part question Sen. Cruz you make a point of mentioning the destruction of ISIS through conventional means. I'd be interested in how you would be successful in comparison to your predecessors who also used conventional means. You've mentioned Carpet Bombing and the use of troops, but that doesn't factor in that no matter how many bodies you kill, the idea will live on. So how are you going to stop the spread of an idea with conventional forces or even through unconventional (SPEC-Ops) forces? It's the idea we need to focus on and I don't feel any candidate has mentioned that fact, but harp on the killing of humans as a solution.
Secondly America has no official religion and the founding fathers recognized that when they drafted up the Constitution. How are you going to maintain the separation of Church and State? I ask being you've repeatedly used religion in many of your talking points as if Christianity is the "sole" religion in the US and the one that should be catered to. So are you willing to alienate those who are of a different faith to appease what you personally believe in, or are you determined to bring them together in a means that recognizes all of them equally, and provides protections for all of them equally? When I say equally that would mean you would condemn the Jewish courts that are in America along with the Sharia Law courts that many believe are here, but aren't officially here.

CPT (Join to see) - We have courts, judges, congressmen, that are representatives in our government using religion (sharia Law) to justify their decision on women bodies when the Constitution says No to religion support by government.

CPT Pedro Meza - I don't think that is a true statement. Our law was derived from a number of different sources, not from sharia law alone. It includes Roman law, Justinian law, Cannon law, Scots law, Old English law, Norman law, Judea law,... talking like this is a scare tactic used to move the masses that do not know the truth.

Sen Cruz. I had the opportunity to hear you on the Adam Carolla Podcast. When you spoke "one on one" you were able to convey a message that is clear, concise, and to the point regarding the tax code. Bravo.

I feel that much of your message and intent is getting lost due to the shear number of players on the field at the moment. How are you planning on addressing that?

As an American of Cuban descent through my father, nothing would give me more joy than the establishment of close relations with a free Cuba. But the fact of the matter is that Fidel and Raul Castro have been the implacable enemies of America for more than half a century. Their goal is not to expand trade with the United States, it is to do us harm. They are operating a police state that oppresses their citizens. They are harboring fugitive criminals from U.S. justice. They are collaborating with our enemies for Caracas to Pyongyang to Tehran. So until they are gone and the Cuban people have basic political freedoms, I do not see much hope for an improvement in relations.

Senator Cruz, you have outlined what I consider to be an exceptional flat tax plan, the kind that I have been looking to see enacted since I was able to understand how the government's tax system works. Critics denigrate it as blowing a hole in the budget and a giant tax cut for the wealthy.
The usual rubrics of "growing the economy" to make the difference sounds well and good, but how specifically do you expect a change to improve the overall economical climate?

Some detail here might help you win at least one voter who is leaning heavily towards another candidate.

1SG (Join to see) We've talked briefly about his tax plan before, and like you I believe it is a solid foundation.

One thing I would like to point out though is that the "Growing the Economy" and the "Tax Plan" must be looked at as independent concepts. Think about it like the Brakes and the Accelerator on your car. They just do different things, but work in conjunction with each other. Modifying the Tax Code is like changing how we apply the brakes. It doesn't actually "grow the economy" which is a product of Acceleration (a different factor).

If we were talking about a household budget, it would be like curbing your spending (reduction of expenses) to get more money versus getting a higher paying job (increased income).

Therefore more taxation is NEVER going to grow the economy. It just can't. Money has to be spent to do that. In order to promote that idea, we have get out of "save a dime mode" and into "make a dollar mode" which is more likely when you release the Brakes...

Does that philosophical model make sense?

Thank you for studying my tax plan! In addition to passing a simple flat tax, we also need to rein in out of control federal regulation to allow small businesses to thrive and create jobs. That’s part of what my additional, detailed, Five for Freedom plan would accomplish: https://www.tedcruz.org/five-for-freedom

If you have already had a chance to look at the Five for Freedom plan, our campaign would be happy to dig further into details with you -- please don't hesitate to contact us at [login to see]

Senator Ted Cruz -- thanks for coming to do a live Q&A with us. I have a question about Common Core. How big should the federal role in education be? Should the federal government require all states to repeal Common Core standards? Should the federal government run its own school choice programs?

This is in response to a prior statement you made, which I agree with: "Instead of a federal government that seeks to dictate school curriculum through Common Core, imagine repealing every word of Common Core. Imagine embracing school choice as the civil rights issue of the next generation that every single child, regardless of race, regardless of ethnicity, regardless of wealth or ZIP Code, every child in America has the right to a quality education. And that's true from all of the above, whether it is public schools, or charter schools, or private schools, or Christian schools, or parochial schools, or home schools, every child."

I would instruct the Department of Education to end Common Core because education decisions should be made on the state and local level, where parents and communities can be more involved and find solutions better suited to their kids’ needs.

Additionally, under my Five for Freedom plan, I’d abolish the Department of Education and return education to those who know our students best: parents, teachers, local communities, and states. And I’d block-grant education funding to the states.
