SFC (Join to see) Will your 10,000 hired Vets plan call for opening coffee shops to compete directly with Starbucks? If so, what will franchise fees run a potential entrepreneur?

SGT S Johnson - Just what does this thread, and in particular my question to the leader of BRCC have to do with Kroger? Your comment may even be true, but really Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

I don't have any questions for you, but I just want to give you a "thumbs up" for standing up for veterans when others are opening their doors for refugees, you are doing the right thing- thank you!

How about the fact that Starbucks is willing to hire Illegal Aliens over American Citizens first? Seems reason enough to me to bad mouth them or anyone else with that business model

Wasn't all of Starbucks "donated" coffee to OIF bought and donated by customers. None if it actually came from Starbucks. I know we got free coffee from New England Coffee.

MAJ John Richards - No Starbucks has to cycle the product on their shelves. So essentially all donated coffee sat on the shelf for a month before being donated.

Thanks for jumping on with us SFC (Join to see).
Can you give us an overview of your personal path to entrepreneurship with BRCC and explain what your biggest piece of advice is for other veterans who are considering starting their own business?

Sure, I have owned a couple of other businesses in the past. I owned a wine bar, a rafting company, and a crowdfunding site. All of which were successful in their own right and all of which contributed to the success of BRCC.
I was looking at getting out of government service, and I needed a business path. The reason was that I had a heavy amount of fatigue from working for poor management. I initially wanted to start a coffee shop, but I was also very interested in the marketing side of the business. I had spent some time with the Article 15 Clothing guys and I was intrigued with the ecomm side of business. So, I decided that a "roast to order" coffee company was the direction I wanted to take.

SSgt Evan Hafer - Where are you HQ'd and where do have or plan to open shops? Thank you for an alternative to other coffee shops. Haven't been to starbucks in years because of their other practices.

I could be happy operating a company owned store. Preferably close enough so I can draw Starbucks guests to the Blackrifle coffeeCo. Store !

Definitely keep us posted on opportunities. I could be interested in the CA, CO, and/or (if it opens) FL options.

Great job on the brand!

SFC Evan Hafer, I'm beyond impressed with all you've done and continue to do (both in and out of the military). I did some research on Black Rifle Coffee Company and believe without a doubt you will easily surpass your goal of hiring 10,000 Veterans.
I'd be interested to know if CompanyVet could offer anything to help. If so, please let me know. Susan

Thanks for asking, SFC Evan Hafer! CompanyVet is a Company I created to address the ongoing issue of veteran unemployment and under-employment. I've been working on it for a couple years (attending VWISE, Patented & Trademarked the concept, talked with some absolutely amazing people all over the US); and in June 2015 I decided to take all my 401K and savings and form the Corporation. I'm still working on the completing the design and development of the website (things are so much easier with a full staff :)). My hope is CompanyVet Inc. will provide three things:
1) Give transitioning military and veterans a simplified way to find jobs and resources.
2) Allow me to continue being an advocate for helping employers better understand the culture and qualities military and veterans bring to the work force.
3) Uncover new ways to set up apprenticeship and other transition programs (specifically, focusing on skills type industries, as opposed to technology; like DOT, building, automotive etc.) during the six months prior to service separation that will create job opportunities upon service completion.
Please let me know if you think there's anything I can do to help you. I've been watching you for a while in the news, on twitter, on Good Morning America... I truly am beyond impressed.
Susan

SFC (Join to see) How soon after you roast your coffee do you package it? Is the roasting date on the package?
I learned that the freshest tasting coffee is roasted within 6 months of harvesting and then (1) promptly packaged with roasting date on the package; (2) coffee beans should be ground within 6 days of roasting; and then (3) brewed within 6 seconds of grinding.
I like good black coffee and generally like strong coffee but a good medium roast coffee can be great as well.
The better coffees are grown at roughly 5,000 foot elevation - I have enjoyed coffees from central and south America, Sumatra, the Himalayan foothills, and Kenya nd Ethiopia.
Currently I am grinding and brewing some Guatemalan coffee which was roasted in early February 2017.

We package coffee within 24 hours of roasting. Which is different than most companies. A typical coffee co will let a coffee "off gas" for about 2-3 days prior to packaging. We put valves on our bags in order, to allow the coffee to off gas while in the package. From there we ship within 48 hours of roasting.

SFC (Join to see) - thanks for answering and confirming that you package soon after roasting. I am glad that you ship within 48 hours of roasting.
I live in northern Virginia and have been using Black Dog Coffee Company based at Shenandoah Junction, WV for a couple years -the owner uses a Jabez Burns Model 7R machine to roast coffee.
That location is close to the Martinsburg, WV VAMC which is how I found it. Like you they give back to veterans and active duty military - they offer a 10% discount on everything and for every 9 coffee bands [cardboard with black dog image - which allows you to hold hot cup without getting burned] you get a free cup of coffee.

So I have heard about your brand here but little about the coffee. Where do you source your cofee and is it sustainable, fair trade, and/or organic? As to the beans, are they shade grown and/or at altitude? Thanks!

We source from Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. It depends on the blend and the bean as to whether or not it fits one of the categories you described.
