Are you prepared to see "The New Vietnam" alongside the old one?

The Vietnam of today is a young, vibrant, and rapidly developing nation where over 70% of the population was born after 1975.

Veterans often find it jarring to see a high-end coffee shop or a luxury resort sitting near a site where they once fought.

Places like Da Nang, once a massive airbase, are now world-class beach destinations. The "Iron Triangle" or the tunnels of Cu Chi are now major tourist attractions. You have to ask yourself if you are okay with the "commercialization" of these sites, or if seeing the country thrive brings a sense of relief that the sacrifice led to a peaceful future.

I am glad they are doing well after decades of wars. When I was there in 1969-70. What I saw was a shit hole third world country torn to pieces by war.

@SSgt andy nguyen I can only imagine mind shock of seeing a battlefield converted into a resort. I have never heard of what became of Beirut beach where a suicide bomber killed Marines in 1982. In 1983 when my ship floated to recover the bodies we were attacked. We were narrowly rescued by the New Jersey battleship and the Tichondoroga nuclear submarine - USS Puget Sound AD-38 (decommissioned) flying the Admiral's flag, the US flag, the Multinational Peacekeepers flag, the Medical flag, and the Admiral's flag. We were there on a peaceful mission and the Admiral's signified the Sixth Fleet.

I hope nothing but peace and healing, for your community.
