As long as they serve their obligation, I don't care.

SSG Bill McCoy - Playing pro sports, that is definitely a possibility. Then that seat has been filled, taken away from someone else who wanted it.

MSG (Join to see) - Yep, I saw where someone noted that in an earlier response. Makes sense, and with a pro-football salary, that's very likely an easy thing for them to do.

It doesn't bother me at all. This happens very infrequently.

The problem I see is, 1: Why did they accept an Academy appointment when surely they knew they would at least have a shot at professional ball? 2: What if they get injured and CAN"T serve their obligation?

SPC John Cummings - That's certainly a valid point, However, as someone else noted, if they can't complete their obligation, they are required to pay-back the costs of their Academy education.
I have no idea how that would work for someone playing FOR an Academy, but no doubt there's appropriate regulations to cover it. I know a young soldier who flunked out of the Academy, and he STILL had a 4 year obligation, but that may not apply to someone leaving because of a serious injury.
