I hope that these veterans who are depressed and traumatized stay away from illegal or legal drugs mixed with alcohol. The military has many alcoholics. Some end up as veterans who later kill themselves. My sister was not a veteran but she killed herself due to decades of drinking and abuse of depressants topped off with her upcoming 3rd divorce.. Get the help. Don't end up like her hanging herself on the 4th of July, 2015.

LTC (Join to see) I am truly sorry for your loss Sir. Suicide affects us all and unfortunately those who kill themselves probably do not realize how much. I am a widower and my current wife her boyfriend prior to me killed himself. She was devastated and hardly functioned for months. I have had teacher fiends who have killed themselves due to poor performance appraisals; the administration can really be that cruel. I was on the verge when I was teaching. The death that hit me the hardest was a 14 year old student of mine who hung herself the day after Christmas 2005. I've known her since she was four years old. I still grieve for her, almost as much for her as I do my late wife.

As for the military with alcoholics, I think its the nature of our business. I had a very serious drinking problem after I retired from Vietnam which continued until I sobered up in 1986. I stayed sober until the day after I buried my wife. Combined with a school administration that dd not support me and the loss of my wife, I took another journey to hell and back. Fortunately I was able to recover. All the best Major.
