Dead on, and that's why it's sometimes referred to as "idiot juice." It is fun to watch a happy drunk though, but that's not being a friend. They don't realize how they look to others and can really do some funny stuff. Nobody enjoys a mean drunk though.

Well written. I've never been a big drinker where it was a detriment to my lifestyle. I'm typically more of a social drinker. I'll also typically have a drink in honor of Veteran's Day, Memorial Day, Marine Corps Birthday. Standard tradition stuff.

Personally I've always been the responsible one. I would never take a drink unless I knew everyone had a plan to get home. So it's not often that I would drink because I prefer not having clouded judgment.

I stopped drinking in 1990 or so SSG Eric Burleson while I was an infantry Captain. When I enlisted in 1974 and for the next ten years at least drinking was encouraged in the Army - smoking was for a time as well.
Stopping smoking and drinking has been a boon for me in many ways: health, finances and healthy relationship development and stability improve after being an alcoholic.
In my case my recognition of my need for my Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ was the starting point for my quitting drinking - not because drinking is evil but because I recognized I was an alcoholic.

Throughout the military and my career in law enforcement drinking was part of the culture. Since retiring in 2003 drinking became less and less important. Sometime 6 or 7 years ago I began to have some blood pressure issues and worked hard to get it under control. These days I will have a beer or two when with a buddy which is few and far between beers. Drinking never solved anyone's problems but sure can cause some problems. Thanks for the post.
