I just saw this against the second time on Netflix documentaries. World War 2 Pilots including Pee Wee Herman's dad flying me-109 built in Czechoslovakia after World War II and stopping the Arab armies outside major cities in Israel. The Arab Hartley said he didn't know they had a few me-109 aircraft and they were wearing German luftwaffe jackets helmets and parachutes from World War II.

LTC (Join to see) - Yes - the Al Schwimmer story is absolutely astonishing - buying surplus C46's & SuperConnies in the US - and covertly ferrying vital WWII fighter aircraft intact or in parts - across embargos into Israeli territory. I can't remember name of the book my Israeli sabbatical hosts gave me when I left - but Al Schwimmer / IAI / IDF Air Force history reads like a serious spy novel. My host was a tank commander in the Golan Heights fighting back overwhelming columns of enemy tanks - and flew C47 ELINT with numerous antennae spoofing Arab ground and air communications a bit later in his career. 1LT Sandy Annala - that's pretty funny because of that documentary talks about these Jewish boys messing around with women in Panama and Italy. These guys aren't that much different than the fictitious party animals of the Black Sheep Squadron TV series with Pappy Boyington but they did their jobs well and they lived to tell about it!
