Historically the skirt was a male garment in many cultures, I wonder when it actually made the transition to being a purely female item.

They were wearing skirts, the school uniform it appears is skirts and white shirts for Girls and black pants and white shirts for boys. The girls in the film were also wearing the same skirts as these boys. boys that didn't wear the skirts had on long black pants with their white shirts. These were NOT kilts, they were skirts.
