I found watching the Charlie Sheen's portrayal of the new guy on his first ambush in "Platoon" almost too real to be in a Hollywood movie, the rest of the movie was pure Hollywood hokum, but the green towel, mosquitos pouring rain in that one scene was done well ,probably because of Oliver Stone's personal experiences I find most war movies just that,"war movies" not realities.

Thanks for reminding us SGT (Join to see). I have watched many movies focused on Vietnam. The ones that were filmed during the war or soon afterwards such as The Deer Hunter were brilliant. Full Metal Jacket is gripping. Since The Green Berets was filmed in 1968 and starred John Wayne it was patriotic.
I thought Apocalypse Now was over the top.
I have trouble watching the ones that are too realistic because they remind me that I am an infantryman whose mission has always been to close with and destroy the enemy.

SSG Edward Tilton - The movie was "filmed in Columbus, Georgia (the mansion scene) and Ft. Benning, Georgia where a mock Vietnamese landscape was created."
I spent a lot of time at Fort Benning and wouldn't be surprised if I maneuvered through some of the terrain the move was filmed when I was stationed thee in the 1980's.

SSG Edward Tilton, I don't believe I ever said that; you must have me confused with someone else.

SSG Edward Tilton, I did, and did not see anything like that in any comment I made - or ever would make in regard to my war.

However, I did see that reference in the You Tube title, but that is not my quote. My only comment was that I found this film difficult to watch.

Not that interested, have to go to the bank. That's more interesting. Perhaps later
