Active Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a dumb idea for a Naval Warship, maybe passive but these ships already have the most robust radars and computers for situational awareness underway.

Thanks for the share, surprised to see that there was no discussion on increasing crew sizes. Seems like that's a significant cause of the long work hours.

Not surprising Robert. There is always a reluctance to talk manning. None of the nice stuff they talk about will get implemented without more sailors. The ships were designed to be crewed by 300+ sailors. We were told to bring the # down to around 250. We cut everywhere we could, cross trained everybody, and it was still incredibly tough. Then they told us to cut down to 220 (roughly). It is simple math that the higher ups don't want to confront. Maybe cut the contracts of some of the useless defense projects, and put that money into more sailors. None of the great gadgets will work when the ship is in port for repairs because it hit another ship...
