Thanks Maj Marty Hogan for letting us know that March 20 is the anniversary of the birth of American television personality, musician, puppeteer, writer, producer, and Presbyterian minister Fred McFeely Rogers who was famous for creating, hosting, and composing the theme music for the educational preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (1968–2001), which featured his kind-hearted, grandfatherly personality, and directness to his audiences.

"On May 1, 1969, Fred Rogers, host of the (then) recently nationally syndicated children's television series, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (named Misterogers' Neighborhood at the time), testified before the Senate Committee on Commerce Subcommittee on Communications to defend $20 million in federal funding proposed for the newly formed non-profit Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was at risk of being reduced to $10 million. Subcommittee chairman, Senator John Pastore (D-RI), unfamiliar with Fred Rogers, is initially abrasive toward him. Over the course of Rogers' 6 minutes of testimony, Pastore's demeanor gradually transitions to one of awe and admiration as Rogers speaks."

As a former student at Rollins very grateful for the generosity he bestowed to the college. I took a number of music classes in the Fred Rogers Hall on campus. A little fun fact - mounted on the wall at Strong Hall, a marble tablet inspired Fred Rogers as well many other Rollins students in civic engagement and community services. It reads "Life is for Service" - he supposedly carried these words in his wallet.

Good morning, Maj Marty Hogan. I remember when Fred Rogers, Walter Cronkite, Dark Shadows, and the original Star Trek were all the TV we could get when growing up in Bellevue, NB. Have a good day.
