Lt Col Charlie Brown, when I was at Fort Bragg in 1970, we’d bus over to then Pope AFB so that we could jump. One of those times we went to Pope, one of the first C-5As was there (MAY-JUL timeframe).
I still have a poor quality Polaroid instant photo of it somewhere!

Interesting comments from an aviation historian about the C-5:

"After being one of the worst-run programs, ever, in its early years, it has evolved very slowly and with great difficulty into a nearly adequate strategic airlifter that unfortunately needs in-flight refueling or a ground stop for even the most routine long-distance flights. We spent a lot of money to make it capable of operating from unfinished airstrips near the front lines, when we never needed that capability or had any intention to use it." -Robert F. Dorr, aviation historian

Maybe the C-5M will out perform its predecessor!
