Didn't the Chinese with the same thing when our electronic warfare P3 Orion plane landed in tinian Island after colliding with a Chinese fighter plane that was intercepting it?

Remember this well. State of the art for the day was still vacuum tubes for many of our aircraft as well. Don't think that would have made any difference on EMP. I actually remember training on dealing with EMP in early 70s when our B-52s were still vacuum tube avionics.
