This is all happening because I had to report to my unit in Washington to sign and have a witness digitally sign my retirement packet. The other reason is we have a Draconian Canadian Government.
One of the many dungeons to choose from on a forced stay when you enter Vancouver, Canada by Air. You (we)pay 5x (500%) times the price when it's run by the Canadian Government. $1500 for two night's day. You can only go into your hotel room once with your keycard. You can open the door to retrieve your food or put out the trash but you can't be locked out of the Room. You can only leave the hotel once your coronavirus results are sent to you by e-mail.
Different provinces enforce things differently and we were threatened with a $3000 a day fine if we didn't go through this blackmail. I posted a story earlier about a law firm in Ontario that is doing a class action lawsuit. We put in an email to them and a phone call to be added to the class-action lawsuit. This goes to show that when the government gets involved with quarantine, there is a lot of payola involved because I don't see any security guard and business is the same except they bring you food to your room.
There are probably dozens or hundreds of people a day that are in this exact same situation. We shopped around and saw a $600-$1000 variance in Hotel prices for a 2 day stay! The Fairmont Hotel at Vancouver airport charges $2400 for a 2-day quarantine.
The Canadian Government gets a big cut from this scam. I just got a call from a law firm listed in the comments. Socialism at its finest!
I finally got my results at Noon (Tuesday 23 March after being there one night) today! Now I can try to book another flight!

I feel for those who must travel, but it's not like the quarantine isn't a known factor. Stranger still that they don't do it for folks traveling by car.

I guess they don't need or want US dollars, I live 5 miles from the border and have not been in Canada for over a year. We would sometimes go there to eat or a little shopping but mostly to get repair or supplies for the farm. Now I wait until the local dealership can get it in.

I'm guessing so, There is a lot of Canadian traffic here and our shopping center in Grand Forks and Fargo with most of it going back duty free. I guess the Canadian gov is liking this as it keeps their people shopping at home
