I have a gut instinct the American public is worn down by the long wars, and most families do not have skin in the game.

You bring up a serious point, MAJ Ken Landgren. The fight often falls to those who have some type of family connection or they have no other avenue to bring themselves up by the bootstraps. When I went to Iraq, my wife's friends banded around us, because we were the only ones in the military that they knew. Likewise, my family and her family were concerned about the situation in Iraq in 2004-2005. Seeing the enemy's actions on captives was a bit much for some.

MAJ Rene De La Rosa - I vowed to shoot myself before becoming a captive as the Kurds did.

Yet they have a strong base of veterans who would come back in with minimal change to their standards and usually get in, get spun up, and get the job done.....except they’re not allowed for a litany of reasons.
