The United States is #1 for our incarceration rate. I think this is a positive step by the Administration to reduce that and help fix the criminal justice system.

A friend of working as a manager in a private Market in North Hollywood and a former Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve, got a commendation award from LAPD for chasing a 2 Striker for stealing something small from his market. While he was chasing the suspect for over a mile, the suspect kept macing him. That just got my friend mad. My friend was a 300 APFT Soldier about 57 years old. He kept running until he finally subdued him so this man became the three Striker for stealing something. I guess the three-strike law being is watered down just going to subsidize the 'science of stupid' crime.

Seems sometimes that "stupid" crimes done by criminals are as bad as any other addiction

Prison reform is a tough one. Its a delicate balance between proper amount of punishment and rehabilitation. Although most prison experts nowadays agree that prisons only punish and reform is nonexistent.

I think we really went downhill when we started making "for-profit" prisons.

MAJ Bryan Zeski - Absolutely. Those civilian run prisons are a mess. Less qualified guards, many more riots and deaths of prisoners, poor conditions, etc...

SMSgt Thor Merich - And no incentive to actually get people the help they need. And then you have all of the corruption of the prisons paying off judges to send them more people.

MSgt Steve Sweeney - There are some things that need to be run by the Govt. "For profit" or "free market" isn't always the best solution. Especially when it comes to public service.
