Good Red Friday morning RP. Today's image is titled "Clouds of the Large Magellanic Cloud." The 'clouds' are teased out using narrowband filters, which only permit the light transmitted by ionized sulfur, hydrogen, and oxygen. This gives the LMC a dappled appearance, for these ionized regions surround massive, young stars. The Tarantula Nebula (at left) is a large star-forming region in its own right. And since we are in Southern Skies today (those of us who have never roamed too far out of the Northern Hemisphere), G'day Cynthia Croft!
