According to an increasingly influential chorus of foreign relations scholars and historians such as Andrew J. Bacevich, Barry Posen, and Stephen Walt, the fundamental problem lies not in the military itself, but in the realm of American politics and grand strategy. One administration after another has engaged in imperial overreach, trying to reshape societies and entire regions of the world about which, despite the vast intelligence assets they command, they remain fundamentally ignorant.

I for one am glad we have civilian control over our military. War is the result of failed diplomacy. We need to sharpen our diplomatic position plus develop a comprehensive policy in the use of our military in foreign issues.
But that would take bipartisanship and I fear we have lost any prospects of ever achieving that again.

MSG Stan Hutchison I Know I did a Lot of Stupid things as a Spook but I Know those that Worked with Me were Professionals. Anymore I'm Not So Sure. I Know those that Worked with Me Kept 2 Incidents from Escalating to the Incredibly Stupid Level because they were Sharp Spooks. They Listened to CTO1 and CTI3 when it was Balls to the Wall. Arrogant, Proud, Obnoxious, They were and I Backed them and Would do it Again in Heartbeat.
