Come on Chip, you haven't lived till you've wet netted with full gear into a rolling mike boat or LCU. It takes a good crew holding net in craft. Get's lively in foul sea state.

My inner tube rolled over when I went tubing in San Marcos when I was in college. Does that count?
Really though, I don't know how you Seafairing folks do it. And still do your jobs! I don't do very well when I am scared out of my darn mind. I usually just hide under the blankets yelling out: "mommy, mommy, mommy...." over and over again.

Glad you all made it shore safe!

An LCU sure would make a decent houseboat. Put an RV on it or go custom. Get strange looks tooling up and around the US though. They lived on it.

PO3 Bob McCord - A BMCS was skipper on my LCU lift from dock to LPD. They were shutting down. I made sure folks got out and hung around BLT COC, realized the show was over. They had helos coming and were going to the big deck. Had to get MEU 4 on PCS to get Chief to launch. Lone ranger. One kid above lost grip on jacob's ladder. Bounced me a few times off hull. Good training. Some BMC was eating that kid for evening chow once I came aboard. Pack helped, chin strap, and we had to idiot strap (2dLt) our pistols. Still caught hot chow.

PO3 Bob McCord - I had guys on the Portland, and used to cross deck to check on them. Mostly LPD's, a couple of LKAs. Had folks on all four decks so I was on them all. LHD, LHA, LST.

My only experience with landing craft was the time our unit was offloaded from our contracted troop ship USNV Gordon off the coast of Vietnam, landed with Colors unfurled and empty weapons promptly picked up by Air Force buses and driven to the nearest base camp, one of the many strange circumstances encountered in that creepy place.

My wife and I watch these two kids on youtube (along with Sailing Yacht Florence, Gone with the Wynns, Tony Fleming Venture I and II Videos, The O'kellys and our favorit: Cruising the Cut, the narrow boat experience with David. I love seeing many places I have been to in my life, through they eyes of other folks. But one thing that gets hammered into you watching these things is that things break at the worst time, and maintenance is a full time job!

So thanks for posting this.
