The soldiers helmet has been used aa a weapon of war therefore by his standard should be banned. Any tool, is and can be used (and statistics show are more prevalent than “weapons of war”) to conduct evil. Gun control is all about Power and Control.

As most of us understand, an AR 15 is nothing more than a semiautomatic rifle. There are many look alike platforms that fire anything from pistol caliber bullets to .308 and beyond. None of these weapons are in military arsenals, they lack select fire. So, they are not weapons of war, like he claims.

From the article "...because of his military background. If anyone knows whether a gun is a military weapon, it is surely an Afghanistan War veteran who was trained on these weapons."

No, not necessarily so. Mayor Buttigieg was a "direct commission" we really have no idea how much training he received on individual firearms. An uneducated guess on my part is NOT MUCH. I know that the those Navy Officers commissioned by USNA in my time frame (late 70's - early 80's) were put through just enough training to fire for Navy Marksmanship badges, and not hurt anyone on the range; hardly comprehensive or scientific in the most lethal employment of individually carried service weapons. They certainly don't speak with authority on small arms based on that familiarization training. Perhaps some ROTC and OCS commissioned Navy Officers can speak to the small arms training they received.I expect that other than SEALs and SeaBees probably not much (apologies if I missed some other specialty that kills up close and personal)

When he launched his campaign last April he bragged about “119 trips I took outside the wire, driving or guarding a vehicle” as an armed driver for his commander. Really...!?!? Were there no junior sailors available. What does it say about the value a unit puts on a junior officer intelligence officer when his collateral duty is to drive his senior around. In the Marines, I never saw nor heard of an NCO as a CO's driver let alone an officer. (Except the Division CG he had a Corporal).

My guess is any first-time hunter trained by his father and Grandfather probably has more knowledge of firearms and more trigger time than Mayor Buttigieg.
