Most of us know something about the International Space Station (ISS), but I bet many of you do not know that the ISS is subject to unintentional collisions with space junk... What do I mean by space junk you ask... Well it is the pieces of debris from many missions into space... Some as small as a small screw or washer and others as large as a decaying satellite...(I may be stretching it a bit on the large junk, but junk is there... Watch full screen with sound up for both an educational and science video experience...

Years ago I had a friend who worked at the Air Force agency that tracked this stuff, and no you're right on the large stuff. Guess it's Space Command that tracks it now.

Our local Legion Post was Invited out as a group in the about 2000. I think we had 30 members or so, including a number of WW 2 Lots of steps and the Airman made sure we had guys helping the older vets. Had 1 or2 just about 90 climb those steps better than some of the younger guys. They still do open house but I'm not sure how often. If you are intrested and in the area call the comm. It's called Cavalier air station.

There is a lot of junk up there, hope none of it gets down to aircraft levels.

As the orbit of these pieces of junk deteriorates SSG Donald H "Don" Bates , It should burn up in the atmosphere...but large pieces could potentially survive and cause damage... Not sure what that size is though...
